Since 1996, FanTasia has been showing the most exciting, innovative and individualistic examples of contemporary international genre cinema, unveiling films very rarely seen in North America
FanTasia was the first non-Asian festival to introduce audiences to the anarchistic inventions of Takashi Miike
"Our 1999 International Premiere of Hideo Nakata's RING (RINGU) led directly to the film being acquired by DreamWorks, both for their 2002 remake as well as North American distribution of Nakata's original instant-classic"
While mainly a Fantasy / Action / Horror festival, FanTasia always opened its arms to eclectic films whose individuality puts them in a genre of their own.
We refuse to take submission fees encourage filmmakers of all backgrounds, interests and obsessions to submit their work.

10 Takashi Miike
D.O.B August 24th, 1960
Place Osaka, Japan
One of the very few Japanese directors whose name is well known among western cinema-goers
Movies he directed such as Dead or Alive, Visitor Q and Fudoh The New Generation made western audiences aware that Miike is something special
Quote I want to shoot violent scenes, but not action scenes. The blood and pain makes it more real to the audience. Hollywood can make nice, violent movies, but I can't. In my films, people are like monsters or beasts. Their violence is extreme but at least honest."
