Interesting Facts

• Tolkien loved making up languages as a child. He
  designed many "Elvish" languages, complete with
  grammar.
• He Was part of a group writers who shared their
  work with each other called the "Inklings," which
  included C.S. Lewis.
• C.S. Lewis loved the work of J.R.R. Tolkien,
  although Tolkien himself hated Lewiss work!

Achievements AWARDS

• New York Times Best-seller
• In 1972, Tolkien was awarded a CBE (Commander of
  the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for his
  writings. The Queen herself commented that she
  loved his poetry! ?
• In 1957, J.R.R. Tolkien was scheduled to go to
  the US to receive an honorary degree and other
  awards from universities such as Harvard and
  Marquette, but had to remain home due to his
  wifes illness.

• Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the
  sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of
  stone, Nine for the Mortal Men doomed to die, One
  for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land
  of Mordor where the shadows lie, One Ring to rule
  them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to
  bring them all and in the darkness bind them, In
  the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Song of Beren and Lúthien
The leaves were long, the grass was green,The
hemlock-umbels tall and fair,And in the glade a
light was seenOf stars in shadow
shimmering.Tinúviel was dancing thereTo music
of a pipe unseen,And light of stars was in her
hair,And in her raiment glimmering.There Beren
came from mountains cold,And lost he wandered
under leaves,And where the Elven-river rolledHe
walked alone and sorrowing.He peered between the
hemlock-leavesAnd saw in wonder flowers of
goldUpon her mantle and her sleeves,And her
hair like shadow following.

Tinúviel!He called her by her elvish nameAnd
there she halted listening.One moment stood she,
and a spellHis voice laid on her Beren
came,And doom fell on TinúvielThat in his arms
lay glistening.As Beren looked into her
eyesWithin the shadows of her hair,The
trembling starlight of the skiesHe saw there
mirrored shimmering.Tinúviel the
elven-fair,Immortal maiden elven-wise,About him
cast her shadowy hairAnd arms like silver
glimmering.

Long was the way that fate them bore,O'er stony
mountains cold and grey,Through halls of ireon
and darkling door,And woods of nightshade
morrowless.The Sundering Seas between them
lay,And yet at last they met once more,And long
ago they passed awayIn the forest singing
