Redeeming the Time
  • The context is the marketplace.
  • Time is our most precious commodity.
  • So lay aside every weight. Heb 121-2

5
Heb 121-2
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of
witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside
every encumbrance and the sin which so easily
entangles us, and let us run with endurance the
race that is set before us, (2) fixing our eyes
on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.

on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.
7
Why do we need to redeem the time?
Two reasons are given in Eph 515-16
  • The first is implied Time is short.
  • The second is stated The day is evil
  • Immorality
  • Godlessness
  • Materialism
  • Fast times

Psa 231-2 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not
want. (2) He makes me lie down in green
pastures He leads me beside quiet waters.
Psa 12 But his delight is in the law of the
LORD, And in His law he meditates day and
night. Psa 11915 I will meditate on Your
precepts And regard Your ways. Psa 1455 On the
glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your
wonderful works, I will meditate.

How do we redeem the time?
12
How do we redeem the time?
By taking advantage of the positive opportunities
that this creates
13
How do we redeem the time?
  • Use opportunities for teaching 2 Tim 42
  • Use opportunities to display godliness Matt 516
  • Use opportunities to display the peace that
    passes understanding I Pet 315
  • To do so, we need to know what is important.
  • Be busy. Eccl 910

14
Eccl 910
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all
your might for there is no activity or planning
or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are
going.

  • Beware of sloth Prov 2430-34

16
Prov 2430-34
I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the
vineyard of the man lacking sense, (31) And
behold, it was completely overgrown with
thistles Its surface was covered with nettles,
And its stone wall was broken down. (32) When I
saw, I reflected upon it I looked, and received
instruction. (33) "A little sleep, a little
slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest,"
(34) Then your poverty will come as a robber And
your want like an armed man.
17
Proper way to redeem the time?
  • Focus on elephants not ants.
  • Focus on your responsibility.
  • Focus on what is important.
