- 2005
2Our Tradition of Tzedakah
The tradition of Tzedakah (righteousness) is a
fundamental part of Jewish life. There are many
forms of righteous behaviour, but giving charity
is among the most basic.
3On Display
Shown here is the work of local artists who
donated their work and creativity to UJA
Federation of Greater Toronto and Toronto Jewish
Arts Councils first annual Tzedakah Box
Project. The tzedakah boxes were on display in
the Koffler Gallery Loggia at the Bathurst Jewish
Community Centre in 2005.
4The Task
- Artists were asked to
- Create an original artwork to be donated to the
project - use one of two bases provided, a box and a
cylinder, or provide their own. - ensure a way to insert and remove money.
5Questions to think about
- Where do artists get their inspiration?
- How does the function of the object affect its
design? - How does the media affect the design?
