2Objective of This Presentation
- The objective of this presentation is to share
ideas on how to integrate technology into those
existing classroom lesson plans. In many
classrooms there is a limited number of
computers. Therefore, a management system must be
used so that every student is given a chance to
use the computer. It is important to remember
that technology is a tool that should be used
with a lesson, not a separate component to the
lesson. Hopefully some of these examples will
assist educators in creating their own ideas.
3Classroom Management Ideas
These ideas are suggestions on how to use the
limited number of computers found in the
classroom.
4Red Cups
- Write each students name on a red cup.
- When the student is finished at the computer
center, their cup should then be placed in the
stack. - This student should then select a red cup
containing the name of another student. - The student should then give the cup selected to
the student whose name is written on the cup. - Once all the students have completed the
rotation, you will have a stack of cups.
5Popsicle Sticks
- Write each students name on the popsicle sticks.
- Place the unused sticks in a can labeled
STRAWBERRIES. - Once the student is finished at the center, the
popsicle stick should be placed in the can
labeled BANANAS. - The student should then select a name from the
STRAWBERRIES can and get that student to come to
the center to complete the assignment. - The idea is to use a flavor of popsicles as the
labels for the cans.
6Classroom Soup
- The materials needed for this suggestion will be
the letters of the alphabet used to create a
bulletin board. - Write each students name on the letter that is
the first letter of their name. - Place all these letters in a decorated container
labeled CLASSROOM SOUP. - When the student completes the computer center
assignment, the alphabet should be placed in a
container labeled ABC SOUP. - The student should then select a letter from the
CLASSROOM SOUP container so that another student
may be selected.
7Picture This
- At the beginning of the year, take a picture of
each student in the class. - Glue each picture to various shapes.
- Write the students name on the back of the
picture. - Place the pictures in a treasure chest or any
type of container. - The student will then select a picture from the
treasure chest and the picture of the student
selected should go to the computer center. - Once the student is finished, the picture should
be placed in a different container.
8Integration Ideas for Kindergarten
9Kindergarten
- The students will use a paint program to
reinforce the introduction of new letters. - Once a letter of the alphabet is introduced, the
students will then rotate to the computer center,
click on the letter and find a picture to match
the letter. - This can also be used when they began their three
letter words. - If KidPix is not available, Tux Paint is a free
download from the Internet.

10Todays Weather
- The students are weather forecasters for the day.
- Print the graphic representation of the
weather. (Graphics are on the next slide.) - Place these graphics in a container. The
students should then select one of these from the
weather basket. - They will then use a drawing program to draw a
picture of this forecast.

12Learning the ABCs
- Use unitedstreaming to create assignments to help
students review the letters of the alphabet.

13Integration Ideas for First and Second Grades
14A Moment to Remember
- During a unit on inventors each student is
responsible for remembering at least one thing
about the information presented by the teacher. - The students will then complete an assignment at
the computer to share one thing about the
inventor. - To make this process easier, a template will be
used. - When the assignment is complete, the teacher and
the students will then place the slides in the
order in which the events about the inventors
occurred. - This could also be used with a unit on states,
Indians, animals, etc. - The completed project can be printed out and
displayed in the classroom. - Students should write down their information
before using the computer.
15Sample Template
Type two sentences about the inventor.
Written by Students Name
16A Look Into the Past
- Each student is assigned an inventor.
- The teacher will then share several resources
containing information about the inventors. - Also, pictures will be saved into a folder on the
computer. - They will then need to find out several things
about the inventor. (See the sample template on
the next slide.) - Each student will then complete a slide sharing
the information they have found about their
inventor. (Students should write down their
information before using the computer.) - A picture will be inserted.
- At the completion of the project, the slides will
be printed as two/four handouts per slide. These
can be copied into class booklets for the
students.
Unitedstreaming has several videos that might be
useful resources.
17Sample Template
Type the name of the inventor and the name of the
invention. Type the birthdate and birthplace of
the inventor. Type one sentence about the
inventors childhood. Type one sentence about the
inventors education. Type one sentence about the
inventors adult life. Type one sentence to
explain why you think the invention is
important. Insert one picture from the picture
folder. Written by Students

18Write All About It
- Once the class has completed reading a story,
they will create a newsletter to share their
opinion of the book. - This will be considered a book review.
- A template will be created in MS Word.
- The student will then rotate to the computer
center and share their opinion of the story. - The completed review will be printed and
displayed in the classroom. - Students should write down their information
before using the computer.

20Integration Ideas for Third, Fourth, and Fifth
Grades
21Math at an Angle
- Have students take pictures of objects around the
school which contains an angle. - Load the picture into a paint program.
- Using the drawing tool in paint, indicate the
angle found in the picture. - Save the picture.
- Load the picture into photostory.
- Allow the students to record the narration
explaining the angle shown in the picture.
22A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
- These are the steps to download photostory
(Note Photostory works only with XP) - First you will need to check to see if you
have Media Player 10, if not you will need to
download the program by using the link below. -
- http//www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10
/default.aspx -
- Once you have followed the necessary steps
and downloaded media player 10, click on the link
below to download photostory. - http//www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalph
otography/photostory/default.mspx
23More Photostory Ideas
- Have the older students create books, stories,
poems, etc. - The students should then record the text into
photostory. - This project can be saved to a CD.
- These projects can be placed into a folder
containing the story and the CD. They would be
placed in the media center. - The smaller kids might then check out this books
and read them.
24Christmas and Photostory
- Students can create books, stories, poems, etc.
related to events in their lives. - The students should then record the text into
photostory. - This project can be saved to a CD and given to
parents as a Christmas present.
