Title: Inquiry Based Learning

1
Inquiry Based Learning
  • "a seeking for truth, information, or knowledge
    -- seeking information by questioning."

2
From birth to death
  • Individuals carry on the process of inquiry from
the time they are born until they die.
  • This is true even though they might not reflect
    upon the process.
  • Infants begin to make sense of the world by
    inquiring.
  • From birth, babies observe faces that come near,
they grasp objects, they put things in their
mouths, and they turn toward voices.

3
  • The process of inquiring begins with gathering
information and data through applying the human
    senses
  • seeing,
  • hearing,
  • touching,
  • tasting, and
  • smelling.

  • How much will it cost?
  • Activities in classroom?
  • RSS Feed?
  • Questionnaire

5
An old adage states "Tell me and I forget, show
me and I remember, involve me and I understand."
  • Well...we are doing just that!
  • Research Project Podcasting
  • Our Podcasting Research project began on Monday,
    February 9.

6
What does podcasting do for kids?
  • gives students voice, instead of just spitting
out facts and answers and fills out a bubble
sheet they are invited to share and direct their
    voice
  • students have an audience
  • gives students a mission
  • gives them an ACTUAL experience, they are doing
    real-world work, solving real-world problems,
builds confidence, takes kids in interesting
directions where we want them to go

7
Communication skills
  • research facts
  • organize ideas
  • articulate points of view
  • expressive communication
  • analyze feedback
  • improves listening skills - this is been an
awesome experience. Students make an effort to
listen and give feedback on presentations when
    their voice is recorded.

8
What is Podcasting?
  • podcasting is a way for people to selectively
subscribe and download audio content over the
    Internet.
  • Recording a lesson (visual and audio) and saving
    it
  • Download to computer
  • Put in on Contribute (web site program)

9
  • This content, whether video or audio, can then be
automatically downloaded to a computer, handhelds
or mobile device, like an iPod. Think of it as a
radio show on demand, you can listen to whenever
and wherever you want. Podcasting for education
can be much more though. There is actually two
    sides to podcasting.

10
Podcaster/ Content Producer
  • The production or content delivery side of
podcasting is actually the person or persons who
create the actual podcast. This piece of
podcasting can be easily done with a computer
loaded with audio recording software like
    Audacity and a microphone.

11
Podcast Subscriber /Consumer
  • The consumer side of podcasting is the
subscriber. This is the person who subscribes and
listens to the podcast either from a web site or
    through a podcatcher like iTunes.

12
