Hollow core solutions have become famous methods
in construction industry. Constructors and
property developers are now opting for hollowcore
installments in their developments because of the

What is Hollow Core?
Hollow core is a term used to mention the void
slabs used in the constructions today. The
hollowcore slabs are precast slabs made of
prestressed concrete. These are made of
continuous longitudinal voids and thereby reduce
the weight and costs. The hollow core slabs are
primarily used for flooring, walls or roof
constructions.

Why are Hollowcore Slabs Prestressed?
Hollowcore slabs are made of prestressed
concrete. Prestressing gives concrete longer
spanning capacity, shallow depth and the ability
to carry heavy loads. Therefore better space
planning and a lower floor height is possible
thereby enabling addition of extra floors in a
construction. Lengthening the span is economical
with fewer slabs to make and install.

How are Hollowcore Slabs Produced?
Hollow core slabs are produced through different
manufacturing processes under quality controlled
conditions in specialized environments. However
the dry cast production system uses the extrusion
method of forming precast voided slabs. Therefore
slab extruders are used in hollow core production
facilities. The process starts with the formation
of casting beds. Concrete in casting beds is
prestressed with the help of tensioned wires or
strands.

Spanning Range with Hollow Core
The hollow core concrete planks are widely
manufactured in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 sizes
and can be used to span 20 to 55 feet of distance
approximately. Even customized sizes of hollow
core planks are available for enabling better
spanning in the required way.
