Lorena Salas

• Mrs. Salas says it was a great honor to
  represent Canutillo teachers at regional and
  state level as a Bilingual teacher. She became a
  Bilingual Texas teacher of the year in 2004. She
  could not believe it but was very happy at the
  same time when she found out she was the Texas
  teacher of the year.
• She has been a teacher since January 2000. She
  likes teaching and couldn't think of a better
  district to be in.
• She is an only child. She went to school in
  Juarez utill she was in high school. Her parents
  always taught her that education was the key to
  be successful.
• She loves to dance and travel. She spends time
  with her son, parents, and friends.
• I am very happy to be part of the celebration of
  Canutillo and to be part of the learning process
  of the students.

Raul Villanueva

• I hade a fun, fun experience at CHS, specially
  because I played sports like baseball and jump
  in track. Sophomore year was the best year
  because we won district in Baseball. I graduated
  in 1988.
• I have worked in the district for 13 years. I
  taught grades k-6th and it was fun I enjoy the
  big kids as much as the little kids. I love to be
  working at this district I would not want to be
  any were else.
• My childhood was good I had a very active
  childhood and I was also very involved in sports.
  
• My hobbies are fishing, grilling and playing
  volleyball.

I am really happy about teaching because I fell
like I am serving the community.

Mary Yglesias

• Mary Yglesias has been working for the district
  since 1981. She was a parole professional in the
  bilingual department. She taught kinder, 7th,
  8th grade, and high school. She is currently the
  business office manager. She does all the
  business portion and also handles the money that
  comes into BCD.
• She loved being a teacher and she loves working
  with the kids.
• She was born and raised in Los Angeles,
  California. There are many earthquakes so she
  moved to Canutillo when she was 16.
• In her spare time she likes to watch American
  Idol. She also likes to take care of her
  grandchildren.

Jose Medel

• He liked his high school years it was a fun
  experience especially because he played
  basketball and did high jump in track. Sophomore
  year was the best because they won district in
  basketball. He graduated in 1988. He has been
  for 13 years. His first 10 years he thought k-5th
  he says it is fun he enjoys the little kids as
  much as the big kids. He loves being a teacher he
  would not want to do anything else. When he was a
  child he was very active he was involved in a lot
  of sports. His hobbies are fishing, and playing
  volleyball. He is really happy about teaching
  because he fells like he is serving the
  community.

JACK SMART

• He loves being a teacher.
• He has taught 2 years 2nd , 2 years 5th, 2
  years 3rd, 2 years 2nd, 2 years 1st , and 10
  years pre-kinder, every experience was very
  different.
• He loves language arts because he likes reading
  and writing.
• His wife and friends are teachers.
• He has 2 sons.

PAM MENDOZA

• Pam Mendoza loves working with kids and says it
  is the best job she has ever had. Her favorite
  grade was 3rd because the kids were so sweet and
  has taught this grade for seven years . She has
  also been a 504 reading teacher.
• Her favorite subject in school was reading
  because she loved to escape into the book, she
  still enjoys reading.
• She became a teacher because she started
  volunteering and really enjoyed it.
• Mrs. Mendoza lives in Las Cruces and is married
  with two children Greg and April.
• She is ready to retire and will probably start
  working in New Mexico and will miss BCE.

Chris Althoff

• Mrs.Althoff came to Canutillo 3 years
  ago. She was a teacher and then became an
  administrator. She was glad to have the
  opportunity to come to Canutillo were she thought
  it was a good community. She has taught
  elementary, middle school and high school. She
  enjoyed teaching 1st grade. She likes to work
  with the community to make the school a better
  place.
• Her favorite school subjects in school were
  reading and science. She wanted to become a
  teacher because she thinks that people should
  help others. Her mom was also a teacher. She had
  good models that helped her understand that they
  should give back to their community. She thinks
  that everyone has a path to help others.
• She has 2 brothers and a sister and is married to
  a man who is a police officer. She has one son
  and a daughter. Her son is also a teacher and her
  daughter is a pediatric nurse .
• Mrs. Althoff loves reading biographies. She also
  likes walking, swimming and enjoys listening to
  music. She likes learning new things. Chris
  teaches classes for people who want to become a
  teacher.

Shirley Montgomery

• Montgomery has worked in the district for 25
  years and says that her experience as a teacher
  has been beautiful. Each year is different and
  enjoys it better then the one before.
• She has only taught in Bill Childress Elementary.
  Mrs. Montgomery has taught kinder-garden for 22
  years, pre-kinder for 2 years and 1st for 1 year.
  She loves kinder-garden the most because thats
  her favorite grade to teach. Her favorite subject
  to teach is reading because she likes helping
  students with sounds and seeing their faces when
  they learn something new.
• Mrs.. Montgomery wanted to become a teacher
  because she likes little kids and has always
  wanted to teach kinder-garden or pre-kinder.
• She has 3 kids (2 boys and 1 daughter) and a
  husband that is a landscaper. She has 5
  grandchildren and a puppy.
• She likes gardening for a hobby. She grows chile,
  tomatoes, and squash.
