1Adventure Cycling Trail in Hal don Forest
Holiday Booked
2Hal don Forest Parks 3,500 acres woodlands run
by the forestry commission is situated just
fifteen minuets from Exeter in the UK, and a
great spot for all types of adventures. Including
walking trails, Go Ape, horse riding and segway,
but the most popular attraction is the adventure
cycling trails that run throughout the forest.
3The cycling adventure trails start form the
visitors centre by Bullers Hill, away from the
A38 main road, bring some change as car park
charges apply. There is a café, toilet facilities
and showers for the mucky pups that finish the
trail in a mess so bring your soap on a rope. If
you have not got your own bike for cycling then
fear not, the onsite shop rent hire bikes for the
hour or day plus any extra bike seats, carriers
or tag-a-longs you may need.
4The routes here are suitable for all types of
riders, beginners and advanced, the track has
some amazing views at the start, looking towards
Exeter but these are short lived so enjoy them
while you have the chance. The trail is split
into sections so the more daring can opt for the
black run, which has sharp turns and rough ground
in places with a technical section full of large
boulders to drop down. The red route is far less
hectic but still has quite a few sharp turns and
tree routes to navigate around, so take care.
5Needless to say always ride responsibly and
always wear a helmet, it might not be you thats
a bad rider but if someone else crashes into you,
its going to hurt. The adventure cycling trails
are constantly changing due to the forest being a
working landscape, so routes may alter from time
to time.
The total distance of the Hal don Forest tail
ride is about 9.5km, and has easy blue routes,
red for intermediate and a small black section
for you advanced riders.
