Five Senses-Day 1
  • Introduce Five Senses
  • Read the book See, Hear, Touch, Taste, Smell
  • Activity with popcorn to use their sense of smell
  • Worksheets and puzzles to further of discussion

Germs-Day 2
  • Discuss everyday contact with germs
  • Go over germ related illnesses
  • Handout of illustrations of germs and tips of
    good hygiene and they have a fill in the blank
    worksheet that goes with it

Food Guide Pyramid-Day 3
  • First show them the pyramid
  • Energy and nutrients each group provides
  • Write down what theyve eaten for the last 3 days
    and see how it corresponds to the food groups
  • Get in groups and design a food guide pyramid
    together to help them remember what each are

Fitness-Day 4
  • Types of physical fitness endurance, strength,
    and flexibility
  • Go to gym and demonstrate exercises for each and
    play some games for some exercise
  • WebQuest for an activity in groups-they are camp
    counselors and have to develop a healthy menu and
    exercise program with the facts they have learned
    from the past two days

Personal Hygiene-Day 5
  • Discuss what personal hygiene is and why it is
    important
  • List things they do on everyday basis to keep
    themselves clean and maintain good hygiene
  • Handout on good hygiene to see if they are doing
    what they should be doing
  • I have a couple handouts to give them discussing
    good hygiene to further their knowledge

Nutrition Facts-Day 6
  • Menus and nutrition facts from fast food
    restaurants
  • Discuss whats healthy and unhealthy on these
    menus that shouldnt be eaten on an everyday
    basis
  • Bring fruit and vegetables and other healthy
    snacks for them to eat

Overview of the Unit-Day 7
  • Get on the internet on Kidshealth.org and look
    for specific things talked about during the week
  • Pick activities and games on these topics
  • Get in groups and talk about what they liked and
    disliked about the unit
  • Each student get up and tell what they thought
    was most important from the unit and why
  • Finally, I will give them a test on the unit
