2Salvation
in the Serpent
Numbers 214-9 John 314,15
3Isaiah 532-7
(2) For he shall grow up before him as a tender
plant, and as a root out of a dry ground he hath
no form nor comeliness and when we shall see
him, there is no beauty that we should desire
him. (3) He is despised and rejected of men a
man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief and we
hid as it were our faces from him he was
despised, and we esteemed him not. (4) Surely he
hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows
yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God,
and afflicted
4Isaiah 532-7
(5) But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities the
chastisement of our peace was upon him and with
his stripes we are healed. (6) All we like sheep
have gone astray we have turned every one to his
own way and the LORD hath laid on him the
iniquity of us all. (7) He was oppressed, and he
was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth he is
brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a
sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth
not his mouth.
5Isaiah 532-7
Jesus - the Christ?
- Seemingly insignificant description
- Not a typical king
- Not from anywhere great (Jn. 146)
- Just a carpenters son (Mt. 1355)
- Could he really be the Prince of Peace? (Is.
96)
6Numbers 214-9
(4) And they journeyed from mount Hor by the
way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom
and the soul of the people was much discouraged
because of the way. (5) And the people spake
against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye
brought us up out of Egypt to die in the
wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is
there any water and our soul loatheth this light
bread. (6) And the LORD sent fiery serpents among
the people, and they bit the people and much
people of Israel died
7Numbers 214-9
(7) Therefore the people came to Moses, and
said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against
the LORD, and against thee pray unto the LORD,
that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses
prayed for the people. (8) And the LORD said unto
Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon
a pole and it shall come to pass, that every one
that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall
live. (9) And Moses made a serpent of brass, and
put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if
a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the
serpent of brass, he lived.
8Numbers 214-9
Brazen Serpent Source of Salvation?
- Seemingly insignificant description
- Just a piece of brass
- Could looking upon this serpent really be the
source of salvation to fiery serpent-plagued
Israel?
9Things
aren't always
what they seem.

16Hebrews 121-4
(1) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed
about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us
lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so
easily beset us, and let us run with patience the
race that is set before us, (2) Looking unto
Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who
for the joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down at
the right hand of the throne of God
17Hebrews 121-4
Heb 123 For consider him that endured such
contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye
be wearied and faint in your minds. Heb 124 Ye
have not yet resisted unto blood, striving
against sin.
Have you looked to the Serpent yet for salvation?
