redeem my soul from the power of the grave for
    he shall receive me.

    redeemed man
  • As promised by God Gen. 315

is guaranteed by the Spirit of life in Christ
    Jesus. Rom. 82

4
What Happened to Jesus After The Resurrection
  • For David is not ascended into the heavens but

thou on my right hand, 35. Until I make thy
    foes thy footstool. (Ps. 101)

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION! ON THE NEXT SLIDE WE WILL
STUDY ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SCRIPTURES
EVER SPOKEN TO SINNERS, THOSE ESTRANGED FROM
GOD AND WHO HAVE NO HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE.
6
37. Now when they heard this, they were pricked
in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the
rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what
shall we do?(to cleanse conscience)
38. Then Peter said unto them, 1) REPENT- to
rid themselves of the painful conscience of
conviction, all must absolutely TURN AWAY from
sin which continues to crucify Jesus. This step
qualifies one for the next essential cleansing
step. 2) AND BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ Why? What for? for the
remission of sins, (eis unto) (See Matthew
2628) THEN WHAT? ye shall receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost. I.e. the cleansing of your
conscience --Titus 35, and right of adoption as
sons Rom. 815)
7
The gift of the Holy Spirit is Promised to All
who Answer the Call of God
  • For the promise ( Joel 232) is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even
    as many as the
  • Lord our God shall call.
  • The visible certification of the promise to the
    Jews is here Acts 2.
  • It came to the Gentiles in Acts 10.
  • All receive the invisible fulfillment, the
indwelling of the spirit. which is made visible
by bearing the fruits of the Spirit.
  • 2 Thess. 214 We are called through the means of
    the gospel message
  • Mark 1615-16 --Romans 617-18

8
The Results of the First Gospel (Good News) Sermon
  • 2 40. And with many other words did he testify
and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this
    untoward generation.
  • Matt. 721 Heb. 58-9 James 224
  • 41. Then they that gladly received his word (to
repent) were baptized and the same day there
were added unto them about three thousand souls.

9
What Must one Do to Be Added to the Saved People
of the Lord?
  • 1. Gladly receive his word (Gospel).
  • Heb 116 6. But without faith it is impossible
to please him for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of
    them that diligently seek him.
  • Rom. 1017. So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
  • Receiving is 1) Hearing the apostle's word, 2)
Believing the word 3) Obeying the word

10
What is the Word to receive by faith?
  • 237 MEN AND BRETHREN, WHAT SHALL WE DO?
  • 38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

11
247. Lord added to the church such as were being
saved
  • Why are the saved added to the church?
  • 1) The church is those cleansed by the blood
    2028. Ep. 526
  • Heb. 1010. By the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
    once for all.

Heb. 10 4. For it is not possible that the
blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
12
Why the word church?
  • 1. The word church is from eKklesia, meaning
the called out. of sin into life of obedience.
  • A. Called by the gospel 2 Thess. 214 Rom.
    617-18
  • B. Sanctified by obedience to the word Jno.
    1717
  • C. Separated unto the gospel (Rm. 11)
  • I Cor. 611. And such were some of you but ye
are washed, but ye are sanctified.
  • Eph. 5 26. That he might sanctify and cleanse
it with the washing of water by the word,
  • THE WORD CHURCH INCLUDES ALL THIS

13
CALLED OUT AND SAVED ARE THE SAME PEOPLE
  • CALLED OUT from the dead. I Pet. 318 quickened
    by the spirit
  • CALLED OUT from Satans family Rom. 615 ye
have received the Spirit of adoption, cry, Abba,
    Father.
  • CALLED OUT of world into Christ 2 Cor. 517.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
    creature
  • CALLED OUT BY a new birth The Spirit is given at
    birth
  • Titus 35 by the washing of regeneration, and
    renewing of the Holy Ghost
  • (Jn. 35 Except a man be born of water and of
the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
    God.
  • THUS THE SAVED COMPOSE THE LORDS CHURCH

14
The Church is the same group of people as the
family of God.
  • The church is the family of God (I Tim. 315
the house of God, which is the church of the
    living God
  • All Gods children are in His family.
  • His only heirs are in the family (Rom. 8 17.
And if children, then heirs heirs of God,
  • To be an heir is to be in Gods family, to be in
the family is to be in Gods called out, the
    church.

15
The Church and the Kingdom are used
interchangeably
  • Mt. 1618 upon this rock I will build my
    church
  • And I will give unto thee the keys of the
    kingdom of heaven
  • 1 Cor. 1524. Then cometh the end, when he
shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even
the Father when he shall have put down all rule
    and all authority and power.
  • The church, the family of God, the kingdom of
Christ his called out saved children will be
delivered up to the Father at the end.

16
The Responsibility of the Saved
  • 242. And they continued stedfastly in the 1)
apostles' doctrine and 2) fellowship, and in 2)
breaking of bread, and in 3) prayers.
  • Gal. 18. But though we, or an angel from
heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than
that which we have preached unto you, let him be
    accursed.
  • 43. And fear came upon every soul and many
wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

17
Ch. 3 The Genuine Miracle
  • 1. Now Peter and John went up together into the
temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth
    hour.
  • 2. And a certain man lame from his mother's
womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the
gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to
ask alms of them that entered into the temple
  • 3. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into
    the temple asked an alms.
  • 4. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with
    John, said, Look on us.

18
  • 5. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to
    receive something of them.
  • 6. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I
none but such as I have give I thee In the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
  • 7. And he took him by the right hand, and
lifted him up and immediately his feet and ancle
    bones received strength.

19
  • 8. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and
entered with them into the temple, walking, and
    leaping, and praising God.
  • 9. And all the people saw him walking and
    praising God
  • 10. And they knew that it was he which sat for
alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple and
they were filled with wonder and amazement at
that which had happened unto him.
  • 11. And as the lame man which was healed held
Peter and John, all the people ran together unto
them in the porch that is called Solomon's,
    greatly wondering.

20
Whose faith made this man well?
  • 16. And his name through faith in his name hath
made this man strong, whom ye see and know yea,
the faith which is by him hath given him this
perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
  • .NOTE Faith on the recipients part was not
always essential to healing. (Matt. 2651)
  • 5. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to
  • receive something of them.

21
WHY WERE MIRACLES PERFORMED?
  • Mark 1616---. He that believeth and is
baptized shall be saved but he that believeth
    not shall be damned.
  • 17. And these signs shall follow them that
believe In my name shall they cast out devils
they shall speak with new tongues
  • 18. They shall take up serpents and if they
drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall
    recover.
  • 19. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them,
he was received up into heaven, and sat on the
    right hand of God.
  • 20. And they went forth, and preached every
where, the Lord working with them, and confirming
the word with signs following. Amen.

22
After serving their Purpose, these signs were to
Cease
  • I Cor. 138. Charity never faileth but whether
there be prophecies, they shall fail whether
there be tongues, they shall cease whether there
be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
  • 9. For we know in part, and we prophesy in
    part.
  • 10. But when that which is perfect is come,
then that which is in part shall be done away.
  • James 1 25. But whoso looketh into the perfect
law of liberty, and continueth therein,
  • I Tm 523. Drink no longer water, but use a
little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine
    often infirmities

23
Peters Second Sermon 312-26
  • 313. The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of
Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his
Son Jesus whom ye delivered up, and denied him
in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined
    to let him go.
  • 14. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just,
and desired a murderer to be granted unto you
  • 15. And killed the Prince of life, (DEATH) whom
God hath raised from the dead (RESURRECTION)
whereof we are witnesses. (I Cor. 154

24
Paul Defines The Gospel
  • I Cor. 151. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto
you the gospel which I preached unto you, which
also ye have received, and wherein ye stand
  • 2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in
memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have
    believed in vain.
  • 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that
which I also received, how that Christ died for
our sins according to the scriptures
  • 4. And that he was buried, and that he rose
again the third day according to the scriptures
  • When learned before Power could not be
transferred by anyone except the apostles.

25
PAUL EXPLAINS HOW THE GOSPEL IS OBEYED
  • ROM. 6 17. But God be thanked, that ye were the
servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered
you. 18. Being then made free from sin, ye
    became the servants of righteousness.
  • 6 4. Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
    life.

26
Peters 2nd Sermon contd
  • 17. And now, brethren, I wot that through
ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
  • 18. But those things, which God before had
shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that
Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
  • 19. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that
your sins may be blotted out, when the times of
refreshing shall come from the presence of the
    Lord.

27
238 compared 319
  • 1ST SERMON

  • 2) Be baptized
  • 3) Remission of sins
  • 4) Receive gift of the Holy spirit
  • 2ND SERMON
  • 1) Repent
  • 2) Be converted
  • 3) Sins blotted out
  • 4) Refreshing shall come from the Lord
  • (Cp. Titus 35)

28
2nd Sermon contd
  • 20. And he shall send Jesus Christ, which
    before was preached unto you
  • 21. Whom the heaven must receive until the
times of restitution of all things, which God
hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets
    since the world began.
  • 22. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A
prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you
of your brethren, like unto me him shall ye hear
in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
  • 23. And it shall come to pass, that every soul,
which will not hear that prophet, shall be
    destroyed from among the people.

29
2nd Sermon Completed
  • 24. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and
those that follow after, as many as have spoken,
have likewise foretold of these days.
  • 25. Ye are the children of the prophets, and of
the covenant which God made with our fathers,
saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all
the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
  • 26. Unto you first God, having raised up his
Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away
every one of you from his iniquities.

30
First Opposition ACTS 41FF
  • 1. And as they spake unto the people, the
priests, and the captain of the temple, and the
    Sadducees, came upon them,
  • 2. Being grieved that they taught the people,
and preached through Jesus the resurrection from
    the dead.
  • 3. And they laid hands on them, and put them in
hold unto the next day for it was now eventide.
  • 4. Howbeit many of them which heard the word
believed and the number of the men was about
    five thousand.

31
The Inquisition
  • 5. And it came to pass on the morrow, that their
    rulers, and elders, and scribes,
  • 6. And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and
John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the
kindred of the high priest, were gathered
    together at Jerusalem.
  • 7. And when they had set them in the midst,
they asked, By what power, or by what name, have
    ye done this?

32
Peters Reply to the Sanhedrin
  • 4 8. Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost,
said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and
    elders of Israel,
  • 9. If we this day be examined of the good deed
done to the impotent man, by what means he is
    made whole
  • 10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the
people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God
raised from the dead, even by him doth this man
stand here before you whole. 11. This is the
stone which was set at nought of you builders,
which is become the head of the corner. (Ps.
    11822)
  • 12. Neither is there salvation in any other
for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved.

33
13. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and
John, and perceived that they were unlearned and
ignorant men, they marvelled and they took
knowledge of them, that they had been with
Jesus. 14. And beholding the man which was heal
ed standing with them, they could say nothing
against it. 15. But when they had commanded the
m to go aside out of the council, they conferred
among themselves, 16. Saying, What shall we do
to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle
hath been done by them is manifest to all them
that dwell in Jerusalem and we cannot deny it.
17. But that it spread no further among the
people, let us straitly threaten them, that they
speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18. And they called them, and commanded them
not to speak at all nor teach in the name of
Jesus.
34
19. But Peter and John answered and said unto
them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to
hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20. For we cannot but speak the things which we
have seen and heard. (What caused the contrast
since the arrest?) 21. So when they had further
threatened them, they let them go, finding
nothing how they might punish them, because of
the people for all men glorified God for that
which was done. 22. For the man was above forty
years old, (40 years the town invalid) on whom
this miracle of healing was shewed.
23. And being let go, they went to their own
company, and reported all that the chief priests
and elders had said unto them.
35
24. And when they heard that, they lifted up
their voice to God with one accord, and said,
Lord, thou art God, (Sovereign Lord) which hast
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that
in them is 25. Who by the mouth of thy servant
David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and
the people imagine vain things?
26. The kings of the earth stood up, and the
rulers were gathered together against the Lord,
and against his Christ. 27. For of a truth agai
nst thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast
anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with
the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were
gathered together, 28. For to do whatsoever thy
hand and thy counsel determined before to be
done. 29. And now, Lord, behold their threateni
ng and grant unto thy servants, that with all
boldness they may speak thy word,
30. By stretching forth thine hand to heal and
that signs and wonders may be done by the name of
thy holy child Jesus.
36
  • 31. And when they had prayed, the place was
shaken where they were assembled together and
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and
they spake the word of God with boldness. 32.
And the multitude of them that believed were of
one heart and of one soul neither said any of
them that ought of the things which he possessed
was his own but they had all things common. 33.
And with great power gave the apostles witness
of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and great
grace was upon them all. 34. Neither was there
any among them that lacked for as many as were
possessors of lands or houses sold them, and
brought the prices of the things that were sold,
  • 35. And laid them down at the apostles' feet
and distribution was made unto every man
according as he had need. 36. And Joses, who by
the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is,
being interpreted, the son of consolation,) a
Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37.
Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and
laid it at the apostles' feet.
