48Meeting the Needs of the Orphanage
49Assessing the Orphanages Needs
- We came with a project budget of 1000 for
in-country purchases - Dr. Jong asked us not to buy expendables rather
purchase non-expendables - Zhou Huayun asked us not to buy food, rather
listed 3 priorities - Televisions
- Refrigerators
- Replace the Orphanage plastic flooring
50Need 1 Televisions
- The Children spend most of their lives in their
small Room - Limited toys are available and limited stimulus
possible - They had never seen a cartoon before and we
were able to help them enjoy their first.
We purchased 4 televisions, antennae and
electrical equipment
51Need 2 Refrigerators
- The Orphanage has very limited resources
- It can not afford to waste any baby formula or
medicines, - but has no foreign currency to purchase
refrigerators
We delivered 2 refrigerators at a good price
and good quality
52Need 3 Replace Flooring
- No Shoes are allowed in the orphanage
- Children walk around in socks or bare feet
- The flooring throughout is very old and patched
up and difficult to maintain - New flooring is available in hard currency shops
We did not have sufficient funds available to
meet this need
53What Next?
- Monitor performance of the Sun Oven
- Report to donors
- International Committee to recommend to RC
Shanghai follow up actions - With the Orphanage (ie fix the flooring)
- With Dr. Jong (more liaison between Rotary
DPRK) - With Dr. Urbani (advice assistance with other
RC projects) - The Door is now open for Rotarians around the
world to build on this foundation - By directly contacting Dr. Jong supporting
projects - By proposing new projects, from new clubs,
districts
