• Gods covenant promise to Israel
• Messiah will come through them and to them!
• But now, large scale Jewish unbelief!

SOLUTION

• 96-1021 Retelling the story
• 106-11 Deuteronomy story, anticipating a
  covenant renewal! ( fulfilling of the Law)
  
• What does Israel need? A WORD OF FAITH!

• Justification by Faith
• Badge of membership
• Thus, covenant renewal leading to salvation
  (101, 11-13)

PAULS ARGUMENT

• God is faithful to his covenant
• The covenant was that Israel would be the means
  by which God rescues the world
  
• Not about privileged status ABOVE others, but
  as instrument FOR others.
  

• HOW By judging sin in one place
• WHERE the Messiah himself
• But transfer FROM Israel to Messiah

PAULS ARGUMENT

• THUS, Israels calling was to be a vessel of
  wrath
  
• Not intended to be permanent! Transition into
  Christ!
  
• Thus, no future for those clinging to old
  membership status OUTSIDE of Christ.

• But Jews can see whole plan and grasp in faith!

PAULS HOPE

• Gentiles should look to Jews in GRATITUDE!
• Jews should be provoked to JEALOUSY, thus leading
  to transfer of loyalty

• Thus, all Israel will be saved (1126)
• accomodative language (whole)
• Election leads to faith
• Faith leads to salvation

UNDERSTANDING ROM 11

• Tied to Pauls missionary plans (1014-18)
• Jew first, and also (equally) for the Greek
• God has not cut off his people to a dwindling
  remnant (against smugness)
  
• God longs for the remnant to increase
• Thus an outreach toward the Jews!

• Restoration of Israel already occurred!
• Gentile mission after and through restoration
• This is how God will save all Israel Word of
  Faith

PAULS SUMMARY (158-9)

• For I tell you that Christ has become a servant
  of the Jews on behalf of Gods truth, to confirm
  the promises made to the patriarchs but the
  Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy.
