2Black Footed Ferret by Adam Becker
3I am researching the black footed ferret. It has
black fur with white and brown tips on ends. They
have a black patch around their eyes. Adults are
6 to 8 pounds and they are 1 ½ feet long. Ferrets
are. Black footed ferrets are nocturnal.
4The black footed ferret lives in the prairies of
Kansas and Nebraska. They eat prairie dogs then
they take the prairie dog burrows thats where
they raise their young.
5They eat squirrels,insects,prairie dogs,mice,and
birds. They are carnivores so they have canine
teeth.
6When the babies or kits are born they are the
size of a humans finger. They weigh 2 to 4
ounces at birth. The female ferrets have 3 to 8
kits at a time.
7by black footed The ferret enemies are
coyotes.People also kill the black footed ferret
to make things like slippers out of their fur.

14Cottonmouth Snakes by Jake Benson
15A cottonmouth lives by marshes, streams, lakes,
and swamps. They live in part of Texas,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia,
Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. A
cottonmouth lives mainly in the Southeast. They
need the heat of that region. They live close to
water.
16A cottonmouth is a carnivore. It eats fish,
frogs, mice, birds, baby alligators, turtles, and
lizards. It hunts for its own food. It does not
have teeth. It has fangs and can eject venom into
its prey. The bones in a cottonmouths jaw can
open wide. This allows the snake to eat large
prey. A cottonmouth often eats animals larger
then its own head.
17Cottonmouths are hatched from eggs. They have 5
to 15 babies at one time. They are born in August
or September. The babies are about 10 inches
long. The cottonmouth babies have a bright
pattern and a brilliant yellow tail.
18Eagles and hawks are predators to the
cottonmouth. Some people hunt and kill
cottonmouths. They kill the cottonmouths because
the snakes are venomous. Cottonmouths are not in
danger of becoming extinct.
19Turkey Vultures by Jason Tuthill 4B
20 This report is about the Turkey Vulture. Most
vultures have weak feet and bare heads. Turkey
Vulture feather colors are red, brown, and
orange. The Turkey Vulture has a large short
tail. Their voice makes a hissing sound. They
weigh as much as 18 pounds. The Vulture lives in
all continents except Australia.
21 My animal is a carnivore. The vulture is a
scavenger. It eats dead or weakened animals.
Vultures have strong gastric juice. Some
vultures can even digest bones. Some vultures
locate their food using an acute sense of smell.
Others use keen eyesight.
22 The vulture has a short, white, curved bill that
is sharp. This sharp bill helps them to tear
food apart. The female vulture lays a very small
number of eggs, usually one or two in each
clutch. Vulture eggs hatch after a long
incubation period. If food is scarce after the
eggs hatch the larger chick may kill its smaller
weakened sibling for food. Vultures have a long
life span compared to most other birds. They can
live up to 30 years in captivity.
23 After looking on several Internet sites,
encyclopedias, and library books, I was not able
to find any facts about the Turkey Vulture
predators. This report was compiled by Jason
Tuthill, 4B.
24The Bald Eagle by Jonathan Klecker
25This report is about the bald eagle. It is a
magnificent bird of prey. The bald eagle male can
weigh 8 to 10 pounds and a female 14 pounds. They
are 36 inches in length they have a yellow beak,
yellow eyes, brown and black body with a
snow-white head and tail feathers. Their wings
are 6 to 8 feet long.
26 It lives only in North America. Bald eagles live
from northern Florida to Alaska. It lives in a
big tree with a nest made with allot of branches.
It lives near rivers and large lakes, as it
catches most of its food in the water. Bald
eagles build an enormous nest from twigs and
leaves. The nest can be 8 feet across and may
weigh a ton! Nest are located high from the
ground, either in large trees or on cliffs.
Eagles may use the same enormous nest over and
over again for years.
27Eagles are carnivores and hunt during the day.
They eat mostly fish. They also hunt small
mammals, snakes, rabbits, ground squirrels ,
deer, lambs and already dead animals and birds.
They have a sharp yellow bill to tear apart their
prey.
28They lay a clutch of 1 to 3 eggs. Eggs are laid
by the female. The incubation period is from 1 to
½ months. Both males and females incubate the
eggs. They both feed the hatchlings until they
learn to fly. The eggs are dull white. They are
covered with a grayish- white fuzzy down.. Their
feathers began when they are 4 weeks old. They
leave the nest when they are 11 or 12 weeks old,
but they cannot fly very well at first. They
stay near the nest for several weeks. One hatches
2 or 3 days before the other.
29 People killed eagles because they thought the
bald eagle was eating all the lambs and chickens.
As a result rewards were paid for dead eagles and
thousands were shot. The End

46Grey Wolves by Kerstin Jo Pickering
47This report is about the gray wolf. The Gray
Wolf, also known as the timber Wolf is a wild dog
that lives in packs. Adults are 4 ½ feet long and
weigh about 80 pound. Gray wolves that live in
the treeless plains of the far north are called
Tundra Wolves or Arctic Wolves. After almost
going extinct it is now only found Alaska,
Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.
48Wolves are expert hunters and prey chiefly on
large hoofed animals such as caribou, deer, elk,
and moose. Gray Wolves have strong jaws with
sharp teeth including long canine teeth that tear
flesh and it has 42 teeth including four fangs at
the front of the mouth that are used to wound,
grab, and kill prey.
49Wolves mate during the winter. The female
carries her young inside her body for about 63
days. She then gives birth to 1 to 11 pups in a
sheltered area called a den. It may be in a
cave, or a hollow log. Baby wolves weigh up to 1
pound. Wolves enemies are people because the
people are building on their territory and
killing the wolves for their beautiful white
black gray fur. Also, people are killing wolves
because they think they will kill their farm
animals. This report has
been compiled by Kerstin Jo Pickering.

a highway each year. Deer looks so much like
small horses with slender legs. They also have
powerful muscles so it can run fast and jump
high. Deer runs fast and jump high so can find
food or jump up to get out trees. They are the
only animals with bones called antlers growing
from their head. Deer use their antlers to fight
