13Outlook for Maryland Education
- The imperative to accelerate minority
achievement grows with each school year, as
Maryland will soon have a non-Caucasian majority
in its public schools. - Source Maryland 2001 State of Education Report
(MSDE website)
14According to the Maryland Teacher Staffing
Report, 2002-2004
- For 2002-2003, Maryland public schools projected
a need to hire 155 teachers certified in ESOL
however, theyre projected to hire only 110 (71
of need). - As a result, ESOL is once again listed as a
critical shortage area in Maryland.
