Welcome to Training
  • Learn the Basics of TCNJs new e-mail client

  • What is Thunderbird?
  • How different is Thunderbird email client from
    Netscape?
  • Is Netscape still my default Internet browser?
  • Thunderbird is a free, open-source,
cross-platform mail client for most operating
    systems.
  • Thunderbird looks very similar to Netscape
Messenger, and the functions are also very
    similar.
  • Internet Explorer is now your default browser.

Similarities
  • Sign onto Thunderbird e-mail client using your
e-mail (unix) user name and password.
  • Create e-mail folders on the server or on the
    workspace.
  • Attach files to your e-mail and also open
    attachments.
  • Save messages as drafts.
  • Add clients to your e-mail address book.
  • Use Spell check.

8
Webmail No Changes
  • You still use webmail.tcnj.edu to access your
    TCNJ e-mail on the web.
  • Use Sieve Filter Manager to set up vacation rules
    and create mail filters.
  • http//managemail.tcnj.edu/

9
Slight Differences
  • New Mail Notification Icon
  • A mail notifier will automatically appear on
System Tray (just as in Netscape).
  • When a new message is received, if Thunderbird is
    open, a
  • small icon appears above the system tray (lower,
    right side).
  • Create Signature File
  • Your signature file was not automatically
inserted into your Thunderbird profile. During
your upgrade, written instructions are provided
on how to add a signature file.
  • Internet Explorer Is Now Your Default Internet
    Browser
  • Your Netscape bookmarks have been converted to
Internet Explorer favorites which is the
    equivalent of Netscape bookmarks.
  • Create Multiple E-mail Accounts
  • You can now add a second e-mail account, and open
the account in one workstation window.

10
Where is my e-mail Address Book?
Locate the address book named pab (left side of
the screen). This will contain all the address
from your old Personal Address Book in
Netscape.
pab
Note If you created any other address books in
Netscape (for example, family), then it will
appear in Thunderbirds address book named
family. You can then drag the addresses out of
pab into Thunderbirds Personal Address Book.
