Characters

• The protagonists were Lina and Doon, two friends
  brought together by their hope to save their
  city, before the lights go out forever.
• Throughout their journey some people helped them
  find their way Linas grandmother, Mrs. Murdo,
  and Clarry.

• This book takes place in the distant future in an
  underground city.

Setting

• The city is old and slowly breaking down and the
  lights are going out more often. Lina and Doon
  realize something needs to be done and switch
  jobs to try and save the city.
• Lina finds instructions but they are illegible
  because her baby sister chewed them up. Her and
  Doon, with the help of some friends, decipher the
  instructions.

Beginning

• It turns out the instructions are directions to
  an outer world with eternal light.
• They decide they should tell everyone at the
  citys annual ceremony, so everyone can prepare
  their items for the journey.

Middle

• They try to inform the mayor of the instructions
  but instead he tries to imprison them so they
  cannot leave.
• Before the guards can capture them, the lights go
  out, and this time for a long time. Long enough
  for them to get away and begin their journey.

Ending

• They get to the cave, where the small boat is
  waiting and set sail down the dangerous river.
• After many hours they stumble into land, they
  have found the path to the outer world.
• They walk, enjoying the beautiful scenery and
  light all around them. After a long time they
  have hiked high above the cave in which they came
  out of.
• They see a hole and peer into it, realizing that
  underground was where they have been living all
  of their lives.

• They scribble a note with directions on it and
  throw it down the hole, hoping that someone would
  find the instructions before the lights go out
  forever.

• I thought this book was very enticing. It kept me
  reading and wondering what was going to happen
  next.
• The only thing I didnt like was the fact that
  the ending was very boring.
• Other than that I say this book was very good and
  recommend it to anyone who wants a book that will
  keep them reading.
