Checks and Balances
  • Limits are imposed on all branches of government
    by giving each the right to amend the acts of the
    other branches.
  • For almost every power granted to one branch of
    government, there is an equal power of control
    for the other two.

Checks and Balances
  • For example, Congress can check the power of
    the President.
  • The Supreme Court can check the power of
    Congress and the President.
  • The President can check the power of the
    Supreme Court.

Executive Branch - President
  • The Presidents chief responsibility is to make
    sure that the laws are faithfully executed or
    followed.

Legislative Branch
  • The Legislative Branch makes the laws.
  • This branch includes both House of
    Representatives and the Senate. Together they are
    called Congress.
  • Members of the House of Representatives serve for
    two years. Members of the Senate serve for six
    years.

  • The Judicial Branch consists of nine Supreme
    Court Justices.
  • This branch judges the laws.
  • Supreme Court Justices hold their jobs for life.
