MELANIN FORMATION

• Skin colour in human arises from a series of
  cellular processes that are carried out. With in
  a unique population of cells called melanocytes.
• Melanocytes are located in the lower part of
  epidermis and their function is to synthesize a
  pigment Melanin.
• Melanin protects the body from the damaging
  affects of UV radiation.
• 4-n-Butyl resorcinol inhibits the tyrosinase
  enzyme thus inhibit melanin biosynthesis.

DECOLOURIZATION OF PIGMENT

• The double interference in to hyper pigmentation
  is a complete decolourization of pigment.
• The effect of 4-n-Butyl resorcinol on the melanin
  production is stronger than hydrochinin and five
  times than Kojic acid.
• The Melanin production takes place during the 28
  days cycle of the upper skin regeneration.
• The effect of 4-n-Butyl resorcinol application is
  only after approximately four weeks i.e. after
  the end of a skin renewal cycle.
• The skin compatibility is well classified both
  under clinical tests and in practical
  applications as also with sensitive skin.

• SKIN LIGHTENING TREATMENT
• Treatment with 4-n-Butyl resorcinol is a two
  stage programme
• First the serum is laid on over approximate eight
  weeks twice daily on the hyper-pigmented places.
• In the second stage the cream is used once daily
  like a daily care thus prevent new hyper
  pigmentation.
• The amount of the resorcinol derivative is in the
  range of 0.1 to 10-weight of the total amount
  of a cosmetic composition.

DEPIGMENTAL EFFECT
Tyrosinase is a copper-containing enzyme which
controls synthesis of melanin from starting
tyrosine. This enzyme is considered to act as a
catalyst for the formation of dopa, dopaquinone
and indole-5,6-quinone which are, respectively,
intermediates for the synthesis of melanin.
