networking sites. - Free exchange of information.
- TRANSPARENCY
- Brochure websites
- Hierarchy of connections.
- One-way flow of information.
- OBSCURITY

job search sites, Industry specific sites - 2. Feed Aggregators how they work
Netvibes/iGoogle - 3. Social Networks how they help you find a

4Where do you go to look for jobs?
Meta-job search sites http//indeed.com
http//simplyhired.com General
http//craigslist.portland.org
http//jobdango.com http//oregonlive.com
http//hotjobs.com http//monster.com Industry
specific sites http//idealist.org
http//cnrg-portland.org (Nonprofit jobs)
http//readwriteweb.com http//dice.com (Tech
jobs) http//treehugger.org (Green
jobs) http//jobs.careerbuilder.com
http//flipdog.com (Construction
jobs) http//Higheredjobs.com (Education
jobs) Thats a lot of sites to visit each week,
or even each day! So how do you stay on top of
it?
5Whats the problem with the internet? TOO MUCH
IRRELEVANT INFORMATION! NOT ENOUGH TIME! Let
an RSS feed help you out. What is an RSS feed?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It
means that whatever your search terms are, you
can keep track of new stories or opportunities
with those words. For example Office
Administrative assistant and Portland, OR
You can tell if a page has an RSS feed when it
has this orange box in the address bar.
6A feed reader, such as http//Netvibes.com or
http//igoogle.com Will help you gather your
searches or feeds, all into one place. So when
youre looking for jobs instead of having to go
to 4 or 5 different sites every day, and typing
in the same search terms, You would simply go
to one site, where all of your searches are saved
as feeds.
7So instead of your jobsearch being kind of Hit
and miss. Youll be sure to get the
notifications that you need By choosing to use a
feed. First, go create a netvibes or iGoogle
page for yourself. http//netvibes.com or
http//igoogle.com
8- This is how you add a search, or feed, to your
netvibes page. - Go find your job search page example
http//indeed.com - Type in something relevant to your interests,
- Such as your job search keywords Regional OTR
Drivers - And location Texas
- Click enter.
- Copy and paste the search result address from the
address bar. It will have an orange box, like
this.
9 2. Go to your netvibes page. Click the green
button at the top left Add Content Click Add a
feed Paste the address into the Add a feed bar
below. Youve got your feed! Now drag and drop
the feed to your page. You can go back each day
and check one page, instead of seven.
10You can also use this feed reader to keep track
of news relevant to your interests in newspaper
websites and other websites. Examples
Manufacturing news Green jobs and the stimulus
package Portland and unemployment benefits Funny
jokes Actually, that last one really is
important. Sometimes jobhunting can get you down.
Its important to keep your spirits up, and have
a laugh every day! Make a feed of your favorite
funny website.
http//Nytimes.com has an RSS feed for its humor
section.
11If you like animals http//icanhascheezburger.com
Can be very amusing.
