POLITICAL PARTIES
  • Political party is a political organization that
subscribes to a certain ideology and seeks to
attain political power within a government.
  • In Malaysia, we have developed a multi-party
system in which there are several political
parties that contest in the general election.

10
HUMAN RIGHT
  • The basic rights and freedoms to which all humans
are entitled, often held to include the right to
life and liberty, freedom of thought and
expression, and equality before the law.
  • People in Malaysia have a right to choose the
    leader by Pilihan Raya.
  • No individual, of course, can be completely free
to do anything he or she wants. That would result
    in disorder or even violence.

11
FREE ELECTION
  • All genuine democracies have free and open
elections. Free elections give the people the
chance to choose their leaders and to voice their
    opinions on various issues.
  • A general election in Malaysia is held every four
    or five years
  • Free elections also help insure that public
officials also pay attention to the wishes of the
    people.

12
CONSTITUTION MONARCY
  • A constitutional monarchy is a form of government
established under a constitutional system which
acknowledges a hereditary or elected monarch as
    head of state.
  • Though the king or queen may be regarded as the
head of state, it is the Prime Minister, whose
power derives directly or indirectly from
elections, who actually governs the country.
  • Yang di-Pertuan Agong is selected to a five-year
term from a small group of local hereditary
rulers using a system of rotation, originally
based on seniority, and varied by a council.

THE PRACTICE OF PARLIMENTARY DEMOCRACY IN MALAYSIA
  • The Parliament of Malaysia consists of the House
of Representitives (Dewan Rakyat or literally
People's Hall, in Malay) and the Senate (Dewan
Negara or Nation's Hall in Malay).
  • The Dewan Negara (Senate) consists of 70 members.

  • The membership of the Senate is made up of two
    categories-
  • 26 members elected by the State Legislative
Assembly to represent 13 states (each state
represented by two members). 44 members
appointed by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan
Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister,
including two members from the Federal Territory
of Kuala Lumpur, and one member each from the
Federal Territory of Labuan and Putra Jaya.

15
  • Dewan Rakyat has 219 elected members. A General
Election is held every five years to elect
members of the Dewan Rakyat. Parties with the
most votes can form a government to rule the
    country.
  • A general election is held every four or five
years to elect representatives to the Dewan
Rakyat members of the Dewan Negara.
