• Healthcare delivery is provided by government and
  private sectors.
  
• Public healthcare is heavily subsidized by the
  government. Government absorbed 90 of the total
  expenditure.
  
• Approximately 3 of the GDP is allocated for
  healthcare sector.

MEDICAL DEVICES

• Currently valued at nearly US1.3 billion and is
  expected to grow to US3 billion by 2010.
  
• The majority of hi-tech devices are still
  imported.
  
• The U.S. has the largest import market share of
  26 in 2006.
  
• The Medical Device Act will be implemented by
  2008/09. Online voluntary registration is
  currently on-going via Ministry of Health

  Systems.

  (HIS) in improving healthcare delivery

• About US2.7 billion has been allocated for the
  health sector development during 9 Malaysia Plan
  (2006-2010)
  
• Several institutions were proposed
• - a Communicable Disease Center
• - a National Crisis (Health) Preparedness
  Response Center
  
• - a National Cancer Institute
• - a National Oral Health Institute
• Health tourism will continue to be promoted a
  comprehensive package will be developed.
