3
Preventing Shipping Damage
4
If you want to stop damage, stop freight from
in your loads
moving
Period.
5
Together we can change this
6
and this
7
to this!
8
Regardless of what youre shipping, damage can be
virtually eliminated with sound loading
practices, good skid building, and blocking and
bracing with Ride Rite air bags.
9
Dramatic improvements in cube efficiency air
bags let you stack higher and easily deal with
problem freight in ways no other blocking and
bracing tool can!
10
But before we go any further maybe we should show
you exactly what air bags are and, how they work!
11
Air bags are blocking bracing tools not
inflatable void fillers! Our bags have a poly
bladder inside multiple layers of heavy-weight
kraft paper or woven polypropylene to withstand
the most severe applications.
12
Theyre inserted into a void between freight and
filled with compressed air.
13
The bag expands, fills the void and locks the
load to the trailer side-walls.
14
Its not rocket science, but its the best
insurance shippers can get against damage caused
by freight shifting in transit.
15
Three simple steps to stop damage
  • Load freight tight front-to-back and side-to-side
  • Split two skids, and insert a bag in this location
  • Inflate to construct a freight bulkhead and lock
the load from this point forward in place.

16
And, what do air bags do that load locks, straps,
nets, void fillers, rigid dunnage, and anti-skid
mats cant?
17
Air bags eliminate, not just reduce, freight
shift and movement in all axis
  • Front-to-back
  • Side-to-side
  • Up-and-down

18
Blocking Bracing Rail Loads
Our Level III, IV, V bags are ideal for end to
end load bracing.
If your loads need side to side bracing as well,
our Level II bags are ideal for this application.
19
Building bulkheads inside the van, railcar or
container using the freight youre shipping and
an air bag!
20
  • Level I and II bags are for trucks
containersLevel III, IV, V are engineered for
    rail shipments.

Air Bags 101
  • All our bags are available as reusable
  • Papers our business, but we offer 3 service
weights of heavy polywoven bags for rail.
  • Air bags are blocking bracing tools not
    inflatable void fillers
  • Protect the air bag when chafing, abrasion or
puncture could occur use old corrugated material
    or anything else suitable.
  • Keep the air bag off the floor
  • Reduce the void smaller is better.

21
Damage
A closer look at the cause
22
Dynamics of Motion
Unbraced freight moves under the natural
influence of Newtons laws during transit.
Load Dynamics
Movement is Front to Rear Rear to Front Side to
Side Up and Down
23
Acceleration
Load Dynamics
Unbraced freight moves toward the rear of the
van, container or rail car during acceleration.
This force continues to act on the load until a
constant speed is obtained.
24
Braking
Braking has the opposite effect and moves freight
toward the front of the van, container or rail
car. Like acceleration, this force continues to
act on the load until a constant speed is
obtained. In rail shipping, car coupling is an
extreme example.
Load Dynamics
25
Unbraced freight moves from side to side in
response to the pitching and swaying of the van
or rail car, and is caused by road and rail
conditions, curves, or road crown. The dominant
movement is from left to right for over the road
truck shipments.
Pitch and Yaw
Load Dynamics
26
The start of most damage in over the road truck
shipments begins at the rear of the van. The
trailer hits a bump and unbraced freight is
ejected from the floor, then crashes back down.
The result carton crush, skid toppling, and a
general loosening up of the load.
Vertical
Load Dynamics
27
Vibration
In rail shipping, a phenomena known as high speed
truck hunting can actually cause levitation and
oscillation of freight inside the van, container
or rail car. Its very destructive and coupled
with the other forces can totally destroy your
load.
Load Dynamics
28
We know how to...
29

Reusable Bags...
Were the worlds largest manufacturer of
reusable bags. Our valve uses the same inflation
tool as our disposable bags just unscrew the
valve to deflate the bag quickly and easily!
39
Blocking and bracing techniques the basics of
the game.
40
Load Bars
41
Load Bars
Load bars are installed at the rear of the load
to reduce rearward movement.
If they stay in place, front to rear movement is
reduced. Side to side and up and down movement
is unaffected.
42
Logistick
43
Logistick
Logistick is a type of load bar. Two adhesive
backed plastic holders support a 2 x 4 that
spans the width of the van or container.
44
Logistick
If they stay in place, front to rear movement is
reduced. Side to side and up and down movement
is unaffected.
45
Logistick
This diagram from the manufacturers website
cautions that Logisticks alone wont stabilize
freight, and need to be used in conjunction with
air bags. Theyre right.
46
Logistick
We have a better idea
Pocket savings of over 100/load, with no
sacrifice in load quality.
Bag this load nose to tail for less than 35, and
ensure it arrives in as shipped condition.
47
Anti-Skid Mats
48
Anti-Skid Mats
Anti-skid mats are installed under the pallets to
increase the coefficient of friction between the
bottom of the pallet and the floor.
49
Anti-Skid Mats
Watch the load in motion again.
Front to rear and side to side movement is
reduced, but vertical movement at the rear of the
load, the most damaging, is unaffected.
50
Inflatable Dunnage
51
Air Bags
Now, block and brace the load with inflatable
dunnage.
52
Air Bags
Movement is eliminated, not just reduced.
Freight and van are bonded into an integral unit
with high cube efficiency and low exposure to
damage.
53
Air Bags
When loading deck trailers or using tables for
upper level freight, blocking and bracing with
inflatable dunnage is required!
Watch movement inside the van with no blocking
and bracing.
54
Load Stability
When load shape changes, begin and end with a
great air bag installation.
Just because freight is loaded on the upper deck
doesnt mean it will stay there without some help.
55
Air Bags
Afraid to double stack skids due to instability,
carton crush and damage? Do it with confidence
with inflatable dunnage. Air bags let you stack
taller and deal with problem freight easily.
56
Air Bags
And, its done with no sacrifice in load
integrity. Top skids ride with their weight
bridged to the trailer sidewalls so carton crush
and lower skid damage is eliminated. Efficiency
goes up, damage goes down!
57
Load Closure
And, last but not least...
Good load closure is key to damage free shipping.
How you load, block, and brace the last 15 of
truck, container, and rail trailer loads has a
huge impact on load stability.
58
  • Damage free shipping
  • High load averages
  • Satisfied customers, loyal to your company
  • A much safer work environment
  • Compliance with new DOT shipping regulations.
