A Realistic List
  • Reach unlikely but perhaps possible on a
  • good day (generally 1 in 5 chance) most
    selective
  • Need 2000 on the SAT to be Ivy League.
  • Competing against Koreans, Chinese and Indians.
  • Oxford and Cambridge38 IB points
  • Manchester 34-36 plus 17 on HL (Two 6s 5)
  • Realistic If everything goes well, should be
    possible
  • students academic credentials match the
    applicants
  • (generally a 1 in 3 chance)
  • Safety less selective school but meets all the

Why talk stats?
  • Help students to set realistic goals.

Early Decision
  • Application deadline is typically the first week
    in November.
  • Student is notified in mid December
  • Submit transcript requests and all additional
    documentation
  • to School Registrar by October 16th DHL
    school documentation
  • by October 26th
  • Must rush SAT scores taken in November
  • Must submit all other transcripts with
    documentation to
  • School Registrar by November 30. If accepted,
    required
  • to withdraw all other applications by December

Teacher Recommendation Letters
  • We tell the truth in a positive light.
  • Confidential unless the teacher agrees.
  • UCAS slightly different. Highly focused
    paragraphs
  • from teachers in the subject area you are
    interested
  • in studying at University.

Student Essays
  • UCAS has specific guidelines that must be
    followed
  • carefully.
  • US/Canada Look at what they are asking.
  • Answer the question.
  • Connect it to Uzbekistan and make it
    interesting.
  • Rough Drafts Have 2 teachers proof read it, but
    NOT
  • the grammar teachers will look for the
    hook and
  • have you answered the question.
  • CAS Essay should use examples from your
    activities.

Advice on Tests
  • Students must send official scores to each
    university that they
  • apply (send up to six free but must be
    indicated during
  • registration)
  • Indicate TIS as recipient of all test scores
  • during registration process
  • Colleges use students best scores (may vary at
    some state
  • universities)
  • Limit of 3 times to take SAT all scores are
    shown on report
  • Not having scores holds up the process!!!!!

IB Grades
  • US/Canadian Universities will make their
  • decisions based on Grades from Q1 and 2
  • as well as on predicted grades.
  • UCAS will look at predicted grades.
  • CAS transcript will also be sent in with CAS
    essay
  • Do not overextend yourselves this semester.
  • We mean activities and holidays!!!!!!!

TRANSCRIPTS
  • Parent interviews required as well as signatures
    on Transcript
  • Requests Form
  • All students should see School Registrar to
    finalize transcript
  • Local/Korean etc. transcripts must be
    translated
  • We do NOT send applications. Students do these
    online. (UCAS,
  • Common App and State Universities/Canada)
  • Once application is filled out, essay attached
    etc., you give us a
  • transcript request WITH the address of each
    university.
  • Transcripts from schools other than TIS from
    grades 9 onwards must
  • be requested by you and given to TIS.
  • TIS will send out 9 transcripts at no cost 25
    for each additional one must be approved by
    Ms. Heard and Mr. Ross.

Deadlines
  • October 16th Early Decision Transcript
    Requests due to School
  • Registrar
  • October 26th DHL all documents for Early
    Decision
  • December 1st All other transcript requests
    submitted to the School Registrar
    including list of universities under UCAS
  • December 12th to January 3rd Counselors are on
    holiday and the
  • Registrars Office is closed! All documentation
    must be
  • completed prior to the holidays. NO LAST MINUTE
    SURPRISES!!!
  • December 31st Deadline for students to submit
    applications on line.
