2
Joint Selection Approach overview (1/3)
  • Addresses problem of implementing end-to-end
    diverse routing across multi-area networks
  • Flexible network model applies to any network
    where
  • Network topology can be modeled as a conglomerate
of interconnected areas (OSPF areas, ASs, optical
    islands)
  • Border nodes have
  • Complete knowledge of intra-area topology
  • Summarized info. of inter-area connectivity
    (list of inter-area paths)

Joint Selection Approach overview (2/3)
  • New RSVP-TE object, Associated Route Object
(ARO), to support the simultaneous computation of
    the disjoint LSPs
  • Records path of disjoint LSP during the signaling
    of the first LSP
  • The format of the sub-objects included in ARO is
    shown below

RSVP-TE signaling for JSA
ARO Sub-objects
4
Joint Selection Approach overview (3/3)
  • Advantages of the disjoint path computation
    scheme are
  • Independence from disjoint paths computation
    algo./method
  • E.g. Bhandari, Surballe, others,
  • No extra signaling/routing load to achieve the
    objective
  • Generic method of communicating alternate path
    info.
  • Usable in other contexts
  • Robustness against trapping topology problem
  • Better performance on optimal path selection

5
Relation with other works (1/2)
6
Relation with other works (2/2)
7
Next Actions
  • Logically separate disjoint path computation
element from the area/AS border node
  • JSA could be directly extended to support area/AS
    centralized or distributed path computation
    mechanisms
  • Enhance JSA to obtain better performances and/or
    improved flexibility
  • Perhaps integrate the XRO and ARO functionalities
to provide a common way of achieving a diverse
    set of required inter-area/AS functions
  • Obtain further WG feedback/inputs
  • Progress the document to a WG document
