• Trees in this layer form a canopy ceiling
• Trees stop a lot of light from entering the
• forest
• Abundant with food
• Protects soil from erosion from heavy rains

• Birds

• Lizards
• Insects

Understory Layer

• Made up of trees that are growing towards the
  canopy layer
• Trees in this layer are small but have larger
  leaves to reach sunlight
• Few gaps that allow sunlight

Forest Floor

• Very dark
• Not many plants
• Covered with leaves, twigs, and dead plants
• Quick decay which provides nutirents
