• Capital of Inca Empire
• Called by Incas The Navel of the World
• Oldest continuously inhabited city in Western

• North end of Cuzco on hill overlooking city
• Stones of up to 300 tons
• Fitted stones without mortar
• Called a fortress, but probably Inca spiritual
  center

• Constructed late 1400s or early 1500s
• Discovered 1911 by Hiram Bingham of Yale
