  • salsa Spanish word for sauce
  • Salsa dance originates from Cuban son
  • Influences from Mambo, Meringue, Rumba
  • Lots of different styles
  • Were going to dance LA-style

Salsa Beat
  • Four Beats per bar
  • Only three steps per bar
  • Count 1-2-3- - 5-6-7- -1-2-3- -5-6-7- -
  • Sometimes a flick or tap or kick on fourth beat
  • Weight change every step

Salsa Dancing
  • Salsa is a partner dance!
  • Leader (usually men) steps
  • Follower (usually ladies) steps
  • Find a partner
  • Gender doesnt matter!
  • Leader leads with left foot
  • Follower leads with right foot

Basic Step
  • Side to side movement
  • Step on lead foot 1
  • Step on trailing foot 2
  • Step on lead foot 3
  • Tap/Kick/Rest 4
  • Repeat in opposite direction starting on trailing
    foot

Mambo Step
  • Back and forth movement
  • ROCK onto lead foot 1-2
  • Men forward, Women backward
  • Close feet 3
  • Tap/Kick/Rest 4
  • ROCK onto second foot 1-2
  • Men backward, Women forward
  • Close feet 3
  • Tap/Kick/Rest 4

  • Stepping away from partner
