2History Of Scouting
- Started in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell in England
after returning from the Boer War in South
Africa. - Started with 20 boys and quickly spread.
- Intended to be used by organizations to establish
Troops, but boys were so excited many organized
themselves. - Started in USA in 1910.
- Most of the countries with the oldest scouting
organizations are former British Colonies such as
Australia, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, South
Africa and Canada. - Most of the countries with the newest scouting
organizations are former Soviet Republics such as
Georgia and Tajikstan.
3Numbers
- Today there are over 28 Million Scouts in 216
countries and territories. 17 Million are in the
Asian Pacific region. - Over 300 Million people have been scouts.
- Indonesia is the largest scout organization with
nearly 9 Million members. US is second with over
6 Million. Others with over 1 Million members
are India, Philippines and Thailand. - Monaco is the smallest with only 49 members.
