Intervention The Snake PitSupporting Positive
Behavior

• Students receive Rattle Cards for following the
  school rules.
• Students then redeem the Rattle Cards at the
  school store, The Snake Pit.

Rationale

• Prior to the Snake Pit students were dropping
  their Rattle Cards into a grade-level box for a
  weekly drawing for candy.
• Many students did not want the candy, did not
  want their name drawn, and did not want Rattle
  Cards.
• We wanted students to redeem their Rattle Cards
  and to value the cards.

Trends and changes in data indicators after
intervention

• Positively reinforcing students has drastically
  increased at our school!
• Students are very interested in the items at the
  school store, as theyve redeemed almost 9 times
  more cards than last year.

Implementation Description

• We asked teachers and staff members to donate
  items that would not cost anything for the school
  store, like extra credit, hall passes, etc. We
  also purchased some items like notebooks and
  pens.
• We explained to staff members that we wanted
  students to earn RATTLE Cards as well as to
  redeem them in the store.
• We reward teachers for handing out RATTLE Cards
  when students redeem their RATTLE Cards in the
  school store, teachers earn their own Rattle
  Cards for a Teacher Store.
• The intervention is still operating in our
  school.

Most recent data

• Ninth grade students are still not receiving as
  many Rattle Cards as the other grades.

General Discussion

• The Snake Pit school store has encouraged many
  students to utilize their Rattle Cards.
• Even though our population continues to increase
  the number of referrals has had a slight decrease
  since our implementation of the school store.
• Some students still do not value the Rattle
  Cards.
• The 1 thing that we wish we would have known
  before embarking on the UBI journey as an
  advanced tier school is to collect data on
  everything.
