15Releasing the Pen
- To remove the pen, slide the release button
towards the top of the pen
16Using the Pen/Stylus
17Stylus/Digitizer Thoughts
- Utilizes a plastic tip that is pressure sensitive
- Translates to lines, letters, numbers and even to
some extent thicker lines with more pressure - Stylus is to some extent machine specific
- Digitizer is linked to a given machine and stylus
18More Stylus Thoughts
- Hold in a normal comfortable manner
- Be certain to rest your hand on the screen
- Do NOT attempt the Zorro method of using the
stylus

22Calibrating the System
- This will need to be done for both the Portrait
and Landscape modes - Will also need to be done on a periodic basis
23Caring for the Pen
- Always store the pen in the storage location on
the computer - If storing in a drawer or box, store the pen
horizontally - Storing the pen vertically can have a negative
effect on the pressure sensitivity of the pen - The pen has electronics in it, so keep away from
liquids
24YOUR NEW BATTERY
- Charge your new battery for at least 3 hours
before using it. This is referred to as
'initializing' and will enable you to obtain
maximum battery capacity. Stabilize the battery
to room temperature 72 degrees before charging.
Charging below 40 degrees and above 104 degrees
will decrease battery life. - Battery maintenance - Get the most use out of
each charge, charging less frequently (avoid
short rapid charges) and for longer periods of
time is better for the life of the battery.
25 Head Battery Warnings
                                  If you're
working on battery power and you start hearing a
beeping sound, save your work. This is the
Battery Low alarm.
                          The battery's
control settings are located in the Control
Panels folder. There you can change your Alarm
Notification Setting.
If you notice that the battery discharges faster
than normal, this is another warning. This can
indicate the battery should be calibrated or
replaced.
26Checking Power Status
- Double click or tap on the battery or cord icon
in the system tray.

28Consider Other Battery Issues
29YOUR M285 DISPLAY
- While the glass panel may show finger marks, it
is much harder, and much clearer than a plastic
display shield. Because of this clarity, it makes
the display brighter than other displays. - If an optical cloth is not available, to clean
the screen, dampen a soft cloth with water. Be
sure to dampen the cloth never spray anything
directly on the surface. If liquid collects
around the edges, wipe it up immediately. - Warning The screen is made of specially coated
glass and can be scratched or damaged by abrasive
or ammonia-based glass cleaners.
30Caring for the Screen
- Use only your Tablet PCs pen on the TabletPC
surface - No regular pens or PDA stylus
- Place nothing heavier than your hand on the screen
31Caring for the Screen (contd)
- Do NOT transport with the screen exposed.
- Always have the screen closed unless using the
tablet functionality - Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure
- Do NOT place liquids directly on the screen
- Be careful of watches and bracelets scratching
the screen
32Connecting your TabletPC
33Wired vs Wireless
- Most of the time you will want to simply take
advantage of the convenience of wireless network
connectivity - Once you are connected to the wireless network
you will be able to move about and remain
connected - Windows is Used to Manage Wireless Connectivity
on both student and faculty machines
34What Happens if Both Wired and Wireless are Active
- Sometimes if you are running both wired and
wireless connection to the network performance
could become sluggish - This would be one time to manually manage your
connectivity by turning off your wireless
connection
35How Do I Turn Off the Wireless?
- On the M285E
- Use the Fn key and F2 key
- Looking at the system tray in the lower right
hand side will give you an indication on the
status of your wireless connection - Turn on and off as you move about the building
- Logging off the network will have the same effect
- It is also important to be certain to turn your
computer on and off at regular intervals - Be alert that Fn and F1 turns off all of the
lights
36Wireless Connection at School
- Will be managed by the group policies in effect
for your machine - Will need to do nothing other than turn the
machine on and it will connect - May need to turn wireless on or off worse case
scenario

System Tray
Wireless Network Connection Icon Double clicking
will open Wireless Network Connection Status
38Wireless Network Connection Status
- Tells about your wireless connection
- You can do additional checking and changing of
your wireless by selecting either - Properties or
- View Wireless Networks
39Viewing Available Wireless Networks
- More locations are offering wireless connectivity
- Hotels
- Conferences
- Other common areas
- May need something called an SSID and/or a Key to
connect to these
Two visible networks Top is the school
network Lower is an area network
40Connecting to High Speed At Home
- If you have high speed at home, you can use
various switches to share connection - Allows for both wired and wireless connectivity
- Be certain to make this secure by using security
settings including encryption and not
broadcasting the signal
41File Management and Synchronization
42File Management
- A very important part of computer use and
management is file management - It is even more important now that teachers and
students will have their own personal device - It is also important to follow the concepts that
are presented within this unit as your district
has put into place a method to synchronize and
back up your files
43Very Important
- Every system and every user has a folder that is
called My Documents - When using your computer, it is important that
every school related file you dont want to lose
is saved back to the My Documents folder
44Synchronization Occurs
- Each time that you log back into the network or
each time you log off the network - This should automatically happen for you
- Manual synchronization is also an alternative
45Working Not Attached to the Network
- If you have been working not attached to the
network, you will find that the files on the
network and the files contained in your My
Documents folder will not match - When that happens you will receive a conflict
warning (See next slide)
46Sample of a Conflict with Versions of the Same
File
- This message box is prompting the user what to do
when versions of a file do not match - This will happen each time that you work with
your system and not attached to the network and
then you reconnect
47More on Synchronization
- If you choose to keep both files, you may at some
point in time wish to verify which is the version
you want - It then would be possible to rename and even
delete the version you do not want to keep - Do not forget to periodically empty your recycle
bin
48Biggest Thing To Remember
- Save all school related files to your My
Documents folder - The configuration of the server will take care of
the rest - Save all personal files Pictures, Music, etc. to
C\My Stuff or C\ My Music - Only Files in My Documents are backed up
49My Music My Stuff Folders Store Music and
Personal Non Educational Related Files
Here Warning These Folders Are Not Backed Up To
The District Servers
