  • New Mother Tongue Policy is a new sub-policy that
has been introduced to students in Singapore.
  • It is introduced to students who are weaker in
    their Mother Tongue language.
  • So that they can concentrate in their other
    subjects.

8
  • It can help students who are weak in Chinese but
    rather good in other subjects.
  • The government will benefit as more students can
    enter JC.
  • More students can enter their dream school.
  • Students can perform better as they will not have
to worry too much on their Chinese (if it is
    their weak subject.)

9
  • The Chinese standard in Singapore will drop.
  • Why we people are Chinese yet our Chinese
    standard is so bad.
  • The Chinese culture might end.
  • There will be a demand of new policies for other
    subjects.

10
  • Parents should encourage their children to speak
    more Chinese at home.
  • Using a different, more interesting and fun
    method of teaching.

to cultivate their interest for this language.

Measures Taken
  • Pro-baby Policy
  • Started in 1984.
  • It provides financial help for parents.
  • Every year, the MCDS is increasing the amount of
money given in the pro-baby policy, as it is not
    responding well.
  • Like in 2001, baby bonus of up to 9,000 for the
second child, and up to 18,000 for the third
    child.
  • Maternity Leave
  • It is a long period of time given to mothers for
them to rest and get use to their babies.
  • They are unable to catch up with the current
    situation in the office.

17
Suggestions
  • More child care centres
  • Reduce school fees
  • Shift tax burdens
  • Mothers are allowed to work at home
  • Fathers should help by doing household chores

18
Implications
  • More parents will give birth.

    having babies.
  • Parents can leave their babies at child care and
leave for work without much worry.
  • When mothers are allowed to work at home, they
will be able to catch up with the current
    situation in office.

Reflection
Communication
  • We were unable to communicate well. Using the
internet makes us feel that we are still
strangers although we had been doing the project
    for half a year.
  • We were unable to get a immediate respond/
answer, hence the discussion was slow. It is time
    consuming.
  • We were unable to get a common time, hence it was
a hard discussion. It would be a lot more
convenient if we work with our own classmates.

21
Discussion
  • We are able to share as much information and
ideas as possible about the given topic.
  • We did not go out of point, but always focus on
    the topic.
  • We were able to come out with the powerpoint
presentation according to the discussion in the
    forum.

22
What we have learnt
  • Communication in a group is very important .
  • All the group members have to be responsible.
  • Teamwork is important too.
  • We should respect every team members ideas and
    opinion.
