1
Welcome to the WDHS LMC

2
Mrs. Brown, Library Media Specialist
  • "Librarians connect people to ideas."

3
Our high school Library is
  • A place where educational / school-related
    research is conducted
  • A place where reading is encouraged

4
Our library is not
  • A place where students gather to talk
  • A place where students gather to surf the net
  • A place where students can roam

5
Library Hours
  • Open each morning at 730
  • Closed each afternoon at 300 (Need to get some
work done? No problem, let me know that you need
    to stay later)
  • Access during school with a pass from your teacher

6
Arriving at the library..
  • Sign in on the list located at the circulation
    desk.
  • Need to borrow tape, scissors, markers.? Sign
them out on the list next to your name and cross
them off once you return them
  • Keep your bookbags out of the foot path! They can
    be hazardous.

7
  • No food or drink is allowed in the library
    especially near the computers.
  • You may not use your MP3 players in school, so
dont have your ear buds in
  • The library may be closed for a class. Check
with me if you are unable to get in

8
  • If you are asked to leave the library for
misbehavior, the first offense will mean a
    one-week suspension
  • Second offense is one month.
  • Using the library is a privilege, not a right.
    Dont abuse this privilege!

9
Circulation
  • Materials are checked out for 3 weeks at a time.
  • There are no fines at WDHS LMC. All I ask is
that you return your books in a timely manner.
(Dont leave them to mildew on the bottome of
    your locker!)

10

    assist you in your work

    cant access something

Research Help ASK!
  • "Planning how to search is more important than
    the actual search."

17
"Google doesn't teach students how to use the
information they find, but librarians do."
"The Internet is a thousand miles wide and an
inch deep."
18
There is life beyond the free web
  • Our subscription databases, to varying degrees,
come prefiltered for quality. They have already
gone through the publishing process and have been
approved by a variety of editors and publishers.
  • The free Web, on the other hand, though it has
much of value to offer, is an unfiltered,
    self-publishing medium. Its sources require
    critical evaluation!
  • Quote by Joyce Valenza
