Agriculture (Greenhouse)
  • Liskey Farms
  • Local producer in southern part of Klamath
    County. Third generation agricultural producers.
  • Proven resource at approximately 180F

  • Headquarter in Canby, Oregon.
  • Four years ago started looking for a location on
the east side of the Cascades to expand their
    operation.
  • Picked Klamath Falls to locate because of
geothermal resource among other things like
altitude and climate. Utilize the cities
district heating system as their source of
    energy.
  • Grow 7 million tree seedlings a year of mostly
Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine. Right now, they
are utilizing 175,000 square feet of modern
    greenhouses.
  • Employ 15 full time and 35 part time seasonal

Aquaculture (Prawns and Tropical Fish)
  • Oregon Institute of Technology
  • Geothermally heated college grew Prawns in the
    80s as an experiment.
  • Recognized worldwide in the geothermal industry
as a leader in development, because of the
Geo-Heat Center that is housed on campus.
  • Were very successful using geothermal for
    aquaculture development.
  • But, the area that was once used as a Prawn Pond
    is now a parking lot.

    of tropical fish from Africa.
  • Ron has 72 15ft X 100ft ponds that are used to
raise 85 varieties of Cichlids. Geothermal is
    approximately 180F.
  • Ron owns an 80 acre parcel in the southern part
of the county and is a neighbor of Liskey Farms.
  • Sells 250,000 fish a year. His estimated
operation costs are 9000 annually, greatly

New and Future Ideas for Geothermal Development
  • Brew Pub Located on Main Street. Two local
people took an old creamery and turned it into a
restaurant and brewery. They use geothermal in
their brewing process as well as to heat the
    building.
  • Malting the Economic Development District has
developed a marketing strategy and plan to locate
a malting facility in the region. This facility
not only would make use of the region high
quality barley, but would also use geothermal
energy to offset some costs in the malting
    process.
  • Department of Corrections will use geothermal
energy in Lakeview to heat its facility. In
partnership with the City of Lakeview, the excess
geothermal can be used for future developments.
