6- Meals on Wheels as a Team
7Why does it work?
- Employees team up with a co-worker to volunteer
on their lunch hour - No one employee is out of the office more than 1
hour a month - Generates exceptional employee morale in as
little as one hour a week - Meals on Wheels will work with you to create an
employee-volunteer program that fits your company
8What are the benefits?
- Promotes staff rapport
- Allows busy people to give back to the community
without taking away precious evening and weekend
time from the family - Company is seen as a community partner
- Its good Corporate citizenship with minimal cost
9What do companies say about the experience?
- At the expense of a few minutes of weekly
contact and visiting, I have provided
companionship and friendship to an elderly person
who might otherwise feel much more alone than she
does because of our friendship. In return, I have
experienced a friendship with a very remarkable
woman. For me, it is a very great return for a
very small price. Dan OKeefe, Executive Vice
President for Benfield Inc. - For busy people, its a great way to volunteer
during the workday and get that personal reward
for helping someone who might not otherwise have
a nutritious meal that day, or even be able to
remain at home. 3M began the program in 1989
to respond to a community need. Employee
response has been great, but the community need
continues, and the need for volunteers is
ongoing. - Lindsay Wynne, 3M Community Affairs,
says.
