Two Types of Play

• Fast Pitch
• Competitively played in most High Schools and
  Colleges by females
• Recreationally played by both males and females
• Slow Pitch
• Recreationally played by both men and women

Differences Between Slow and Fast Pitch Softball
Dimensions

• Fast Pitch
• Outfield fence is 190-220 ft.
• Pitching rubber is 40 ft. in High School and 43
  ft. in College
• Base path is 60 ft.

• Slow Pitch
• Outfield fence is 300 ft.- no set limit
• Pitching rubber is 50 ft.
• Base path is 65 ft.

Equipment used in Both

• 12 inch balls are used in both most are now
  yellow but occasionally in slow pitch they use
  white
• Bats ranging from 31-35 inches long
• Fielding gloves
• Batting Gloves
• Cleats

Equipment Differences

• Fast Pitch
• Helmets
• The bats are lighter than slow pitch 20-25 oz.
• Catchers wear equipment along with the umpires

• Slow Pitch
• The bats are about 23-27 oz.
• Catchers dont were any equipment
• They arent made to wear helmets

Fast Pitch VS. Slow PitchRules

• 9 players allowed on the field
• 7 innings of play
• Metal cleats are allowed in College but only
  rubber in High School
• Runners may leave the base when the ball leaves
  the pitchers hand

• 10 player allowed on the field (4 outfielders)
• 7 innings of play
• Not metal cleats allowed
• No bunting allowed
• Runners may leave the base when the ball crosses
  or hit home plate
• The arc has to me a minimum of 6 ft. from the
  ground
• Foul ball strike three is an out

Why Such a Big Interest?

• Softball has become a very popular sport in the
  last few years
• Both men and women are very interested in it due
  to the fact that its very laid back and not much
  physical activity
• You can play very physically but in the
  recreationally leagues for people over 30 or 40
  they play just to stay active and its not so
  competitive

Slow Pitch Softball

• There are different leagues offered
• for men women and co-ed leagues
• Men play with a 12 inch ball and the women tend
  to play with an 11 inch ball
• In co-ed leagues there are special rules about
  having men and women playing at the same time
• They have to make it even so the other team
  doesnt have an advantage

Fast Pitch Softball

• Competitively played in Middle School, High
  School, College, and Professionally my females
• This is also an Olympic Sport for women
• There is also competitive softball for males in
  leagues and tournaments in the Spring Summer and
  Fall
• Most of the men are in their 20-30s who play
  fast pitch competitively

Slow Pitch Pictures

• As you can see by the pictures they do not wear
  helmets like fast pitch softball does

Summary

• As you can see from the slide show softball is a
  sport that can be played by all genders and ages
• Both slow pitch and fast pitch softball have
  their similarities and differences
