Arguments for and against Welfare
  • Poor people need and deserve government
    assistance.
  • Welfare cuts wont save a lot of money.
  • Its morally wrong to remove such assistance when
a lot of unskilled people cant find descent
    jobs.
  • According to some studies, welfare payments dont
    increase out-of wedlock births.
  • Even though the U.S. has spent billions of
dollars on welfare, it has done little to reduce
    poverty.
  • Those who are able to work should be expected to
    do so.
  • Immigrants shouldnt come to our country
    expecting welfare checks.
  • The only course of action is to help people
become self-sufficient and not rely on checks.

Pros and Cons of Privatizing Social Security Taxes
  • Pros
  • Allow younger people to invest their money into a
stock or mutual fund of their choice.
  • Would help save and raise the amount of
retirement fund young people today would receive
    when they retire.
  • Private investments help boost economic growth in
the private sector creating more jobs.
  • Allows individuals to have more say as to where
their Social Security taxes are going.
  • Cons
  • Puts many of the individuals in financial risk.
  • Takes away from current funding of retired
    beneficiaries of Social Security.
  • Taxes on Social Security would have to be raised
more then predicted to pay for baby boomers.
