Title: What is our aim

1
What is our aim
  • To Think out of the box about how to we teach
    science.
  • As a school we are attempting to answer this
    questions in 3 ways

2
The School
  • We are a Middle School that teach students from
    the ages 9 to 14.
  • Leighton Buzzard is a market town 40 miles north
of London. It is a old town, in fact it was
    mentioned in the Domesday book.

3
Visit of the Russian Cosmonauts
  • We run a Rocket course and we were very
fortunate to have a lecture for our students from
    two visiting Russian cosmonauts

4
  • New Science studio
  • Assessment for learning
  • Interactive activities (Starters and plenaries)

5
This is the future of science education
  • We are one of only six schools in the united
Kingdom to have this new type of science
classroom. Two of them are in Leighton Buzzard.
Gilbert Inglefield and Linslade Middle schools.

6
New Active Science Studio
7
New concept in education
  • A Taoist Chinese proverb
  • I hear and I forget.
  • I see and I remember.
  • I DO and I UNDERSTAND.

8
This an interactive classroom
9
Interactive whiteboards
10
Mobile work desks
11
Work tables can be moved around to suit different
teaching styles
  • There are a number of points for gas,
    electricity and internet connection

12
Carpets in the studio
13
Work desks are totally independent
14
Surround sound system for accelerated learning
15
Colour scheme
  • Both Linslade and ourselves have picked the
colour pale green. Research shows this has a
    calming effect on students

16
Top of the line projectors
17
Lighting system
  • A revolutionary system of lighting which
mimics daylight. This stimulates the cerebral
    part of the brain

18
No more uncomfortable stools
19
CCTV
  • This CCTV is all round the lab including the
interactive demo desk of the teacher. Images are
then placed on the interactive board. These can
be stored as practical assessment of students. It
is also possible to put demonstrations on the
website for students who are ill and miss lessons

20
  • We have some new pieces of CCTV equipment .
  • The cameras can move around the classroom. Zoom
in and out. These are controlled by a joystick on
    the teachers desk.

21
New preparation room
22
Fish tanks and plants
  • New types of features to enhance the calming
effect such as an aquarium and plants

23
What are extras for Gilberts studio ?
24
A Planetarium
  • The studio will have the capability of turning
the dome of the roof into a planetarium.
  • No OTHER school in the country will have this
    teaching tool

25
A Smell box
  • A machine that will place different aromas into
the classroom. This is linked to work on the
benefits of aromatherapy. Also will be used to
mimic the smells of areas such as Rainforests

26
A new all purpose graphic design room
  • One of the advantages of our lab being on the
second level is that we are able to house a new
    graphic design room underneath.

27
Interactive cross curricular garden
  • This will be situated between the year 6
block and Science studio block. Here many ideas
such as open air theatre, an energy park, with a
dam outside, art facilities and an Ecology corner
will be found. Most of the ideas have come from
the students. Here is Emily Larkins, the winner
of the competition and Mr Bird, the LEA
    coordinator of the project

28
Assessment for learning
  • This type of formative assessment that allows
us to see where students are and change our
    planning at any stage.

29
Interactive activities
  • As a department we are a UK lead department in
starters and plenaries. These are the interactive
    activities that motivate students
