A History
Located on the border between Utah and Arizona,
Lake Powell is the second largest man-made
reservoir in the United States. Created as a
result of the flooding of Glen Canyon in 1963, it

3Tower Butte
- During your Lake Powell visit, be sure to visit
Tower Butte. Formed over millions of years, Tower
Butte sits 5,000 feet above sea level on the
south shore of Lake Powell and Monument Valley
Navajo Tribal Park. Only accessible by
helicopter, the plateau offers 360 degree views
of the surrounding area.
4Rainbow Bridge
See the Sights
- Named Nonnezoshe or rainbow turned to stone
by the Navajo people, the Rainbow Bridge is a
sacred formation carved by wind, sand and
streams. The tallest natural bridge in the world,
it stands 290 feet high and 275 feet wide.
Tucked away in Lake Powells surrounding canyons,
its accessibly by hiking or a boat ride across
the lake.
5Monument Valley
- A short distance away from Lake Powell is
Monument Valley. An iconic staple of western
films, it defined the image of the American West
for a generation. Famous for its stratified
buttes, the valley contains multiple natural
formations. As part of the Monument Valley Navajo
Tribal Park, visitors can have a guided tour of
the area or fly over it by going on an airplane
tour.
6Glen Canyon
The canyon that holds Lake Powell, Glen Canyon is
located north of the Grand Canyon. Rich in
archaeological and biological findings, it was a
major scientific resource for scientists around
the world. At over 1.2 million acres, it provides
endless opportunities for water, hiking and
