The ICAN system is the Navys first attempt at
combining voice, data and video systems into a
ship-wide integrated communications network
utilizing ruggedized non-developmental items
(NDI) and commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS)
equipment. The ICAN was developed to provide a
single, fully integrated, and survivable
communications system that provides for system
growth throughout the life of the ship. Ki, LLC
provides programmatic problem solving with the
ICAN IVS signaling via the Core Network. The
Core Network utilizes Asynchronous Transfer Mode
(ATM) switches, in conjunction with a Synchronous
Optical Network (SONET) to pass voice, video and
data.
