    admired people in history.
  • He led his students to examine their beliefs and
    ideas.
  • The unexamined life is not worth living
  • Socrates died in 399B.C. after being found guilty

Greek Achievements
  • One of the greatest works of architecture was the
Parthenon. It was the temple of Athena, goddess
of the city. It stood on the Acropolis, a high
rocky hill, so it could be seen from all parts of
    the city.

5
Greek Achievements
  • The Parthenon seems in decent repair considering
the 1687 attack, here seen from the hill of the
Pnyx to the west, but modern problems threaten
    the ancient temple.

Greek Achievements
  • The western face of the Parthenon remains
    relatively intact.

7
Greek Achievements
  • The Greeks builders made use of many stone
columns. We still use these styles today. The
Lincoln Memorial has Doric columns. The
Jefferson Memorial has Ionic columns and the
    Supreme Court Building are Corinthian.

Zeus, the greatest of gods, created the Olympic

Olympia, where the games took place every 4 years.

    1896.
  • The games have been held every 4 years since
then, except during WWI and WWII.

Greek Achievements
  • The ancient Greeks liked plays. Every Greek city
had its theater, and plays were a part of
