• A STATEMENT OF FACT CAN BE CHECKED FOR ACCURACY.
• YOU CAN LOOK IT UP IN A REFERNCE BOOK OR SOME
  OTHER SOURCE TO CHECK THAT THE STATEMENT IS TRUE.

Here are some fact words you would hear

Fact Example

• The axe has a wooden handle.
• Here we can see that it has a wooden handle.
• The robe of Cleopatra is purple.

• Here we can see that the robe is purple.

Fact Non Example

• The axe is a dangerous tool.
• This is not a fact because you can not prove
• that the axe is dangerous.
• The robe of Cleopatra is expensive.
• This is not a fact because what might be
  expensive
• to one person, is not expensive for the other.

OPINION

• AN OPINION CANT BE CHECKED FOR ACCURACY.
• ANY NUMBER OF PEOPLE COULD HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT
  THE SAME NUMBER OF THINGS.

Here are some opinion words you would hear

Opinion Example

• This flower is beautiful.
• Not everyone thinks flowers are beautiful,
• therefore this is an opinion.
• This is an ugly duckling.
• You might not think that the duckling is ugly,
• therefore it is your opinion.

Opinion Non Example

• The flower is purple.
• Since this statement is true and its accuracy
• can be checked, It is not an opinion.
• The duckling has a big beak.
• Since you can see that the duckling has a big
  beak,
• this is not an opinion.
