Creating (Composing)

• Expressive dances are composed of a variety of
  locomotor and nonlocomotor movements.
  
• Locomotortraveling movements
• walk, run, skip, hop, jump, slide, leap, gallop
• Nonlocomotormovement without traveling
• bend, stretch, twist, swing

Expression

• Dances can communicate
• ideas
• thoughts
• feelings
• Dances can tell a story
• narrative dances (remember personal narratives in
  fourth grade??? Those were YOUR stories. Dances
  can also tell stories.)

3 Purposes of Dance

• Ceremonialcelebration, hunting (Native American
  dance)
  
• RecreationalMs. Johnsons favorite! This is
  just to have fun. We will be doing some
  recreational dancing as a class SOON! (examples
  folk dances, social)
• Artisticballet, tap, jazz (These can also tell
  stories, so they can be narrative dances.)

Comparing/Contrasting/Creating

• As we study different styles of dance over
  different time periods and for different
  purposes, be able to compare and contrast them.
  
• We will be prepping for the CATS test by taking
  different situations and creating dances. You
  MUST be able to WRITE clearly enough that the
  reader could perform your choreography.
