Why recycle?
To save landfill space
Our landfills are filling up, new ones are more
expensive.
  • In 2005
  • Recycling diverted 78 million tons of waste from
    landfills nationwide
  • Norman citizens diverted 11,231 tons from
landfills by recycling and composting, saving the
city over 160,000 in landfill costs

Why recycle?
To save landfill space
Highest elevation in central Oklahoma
16
Why recycle?
To save natural resources
Population growth and increasing consumption are
taxing many natural resources. Recycling one ton
of paper can save 17 trees and 380 gallons of oil

17
Why recycle?
To conserve energy
Fossil fuels are ever more expensive to extract
and their extraction can pollute air and water .
  • Recycling
  • One ton of paper saves 4000 kWh of energy
  • 22 aluminum cans save a gallon of gas
  • One glass jar saves enough to light a 100 watt
    bulb for 4 hours
