- Boundary Meetings
- January 24, 25, 26
2The Good News
- As a result of the 2003 bond issue, we have the
opportunity to open a new middle school which
will - Permit all residents of the Driscoll attendance
area to attend Driscoll and eliminate overflow to
Tejeda - Reduce enrollment at area middle schools
- Reduce reliance on portable buildings
- Send children to schools closer to home
3The Bad News
- Opening a new school requires changes in
attendance boundaries

5PLANNING GOALS AND ASSUMPTIONSGUIDES FOR
ANALYSIS
- Goals And Assumptions Are Relevant To Three Broad
Planning Concerns - Setting Attendance Boundaries
- Facility Use Capacity Measurement
- Optimal School Size
6PLANNING GOALS AND ASSUMPTIONSGUIDES FOR
ANALYSIS
- Goals And Assumptions Originally Developed By
Staff During The 1987-88 School Year - Agreed To And Prioritized By The Board of
Trustees In January, 1991 - Refined and Reprioritized By The Board Of
Trustees In May, 2001 - Further Refined By The Board of Trustees in
March, 2002 April, 2003
7PLANNING GOALS AND ASSUMPTIONSGUIDES FOR
ANALYSIS
- A Different Set of Goals and Assumptions Would
Result in a Different Plan - It is Unlikely that ALL Goals and Assumptions
Will Be SIMULTANEOUSLY met
8Planning Goals AssumptionsImmediately Relevant
to Middle School Boundaries
- High Priority
- B3 Boundaries Should Remain As Stable As
Possible Over Time - B4 Neighborhood Integrity Should Be Maintained
Where Possible - Medium Priority
- B6 Boundaries Should Maximize The Opportunity
For Students To Participate In School Activities - S2 An Optimal Limit Of Approximately 1250 - 1500
Is Appropriate For Middle School Enrollments at
New and Rebuilt Facilities - S5 Elementary School Enrollments Should Not
Exceed 95 Of Classroom Capacity And Secondary
Enrollment Should Not Exceed 90 Of Classroom
Capacity - Low Priority
- B8 Whenever Possible, Feeder School Percentages
Should Not Fall Below a Minimum Of 15 For
Elementary School To Middle School And 25 For
Middle To High School - F8 Where Possible, Minimize The Number Of
Portable Classrooms Needed

18Feedback FromPreliminary Meetings
- Keep Canyon View at Bradley
- Keep Hollywood Park at Bradley
- Keep Thousand Oaks Neighborhoods at Bradley they
look like they are close to Driscoll, but there
is no direct route - Keep Redland Estates at Bradley
- Move Redland Estates to Driscoll
- Move Longs Creek to Harris
- Set Wood/Harris Boundary at Stahl Road
- Safety Concerns Crossing Nacogdoches to Wood
- Preference for Grandfathering All Students
- Preference for Grandfathering with Busing
- Eliminate Grandfathering
- Preference for Aligned Feeder System
- No Jazz Band at Driscoll for Students Moving from
Bradley
19Our ThinkingGeneral Ideas About New Boundaries
- Driscoll
- Significant Enrollment Reduction by Moving
Eastern Neighborhoods to Harris - Eliminate Overflow Situation
- Bradley
- Reduce Enrollment Somewhat by Moving Some Eastern
Neighborhoods to Driscoll - Wood
- Reduce Enrollment Somewhat so that Future Growth
can be Accommodated by Moving Some Northern
Neighborhoods to Harris
