Title: Texas Summer Reading Programs
1Read, every day, something no one else is
reading. Think, every day, something no one else
is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else
would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the
mind to be always part of unanimity.

16School Library Summer Reading Program Ideas
- Bluebonnet Summer Reading List
- Put together goody bags for 15 of the Bluebonnet
student voting population if they read ALL of the
Bluebonnets over the summer. - Include a completion certificate and gift
certificate if they can make a presentation of
five of the 20 titles to their class. - PK-2nd Summer Reading Program
- Give a Scholastic Book Fair Gift Certificate for
every family that reads a minimum of 100 picture
books to their PK-2nd grade students. One
certificate per student.
17School Library Summer Reading Program Ideas - 2
- Meet with the PE and Music teachers to provide
incentives for reading books about sports, music,
biographies, or taking up an instrument, or
creating a new field game AND sharing with the
class. - Collaborate with classroom teachers and
administration to provide incentives for students
to read during the summer months. - Breakfast with the Principal the first Friday of
the school year. - Goody Bags of bookmarks, pencils, erasers, small
notebooks, and a paperback picture book. - Special Library Program designed for the class
with the most summer readers. Students must
bring in a notebook with the titles and summaries
of each story to the classroom teacher. Teacher
turns in totals to librarian for calculations. - I AM A READER! crowns for PK-K children to wear
during the first week of school, if they have
read, or are read to, of 50 books. - Reading Day Parade scheduled once a month for
students who read 50 books or more each month.
Students must complete and turn into the
librarian reading list information.
18Activity
- Draw up a proposal of a Summer Reading Plan that
you could feasibly accomplish between now and May
24th. - It should include purpose, target audience,
budget, collaboration, student incentives, catchy
slogan, marketing techniques, and a contact list
of all necessary participants for this to be
successful. Keep it simple!!
