• If the alarm sounded because the bombers were
  coming, people had to run to the nearest shelter
  to them.

• People used to grow food on their shelters to
  stop the Germans from seeing them. Also they did
  this because they had less food to eat because
  the food ships were bombed.

• Lots of people slept in the under ground railway
  stations. They couldnt sleep because of the
  bombs being dropped.

• The Morrison Shelter was kept inside your house.
  It was like a tiny bungalow and it could only fit
  two people in it. They used to use them as
  tables. The council knocked on their doors and
  gave them the shelter.

• Children were scared of the black masks so they
  had a mask called a Mickey Mouse mask. When a gas
  bomb dropped, they had to put on their gas masks
  quickly. A billet officer would rattle a rattle
  and that meant a gas bomb had been dropped.
