VAISAKHI THROUGH THE AGES

• A timeline of historical events occurring on
  Vaisakhi Day

1559

• Guru Amar Das Ji gave instructions to Sikhs to
  gather at Goindwal Sahib
  
• Bhai Paro Jis benti to unite sangat.
• Guru ji followed suggestion and invited sangat.
• Guru Sahib had constructed the Baoli Sahib and
  Sangat came to do darshan and ishnaan here.

1919

• Jallian wala bagh incident took place.
• The British had passed a controversial ruling The
  Rowlatts Bill.
  
• To discuss and protest people gathered in
  Amritsar. Troops under General Dyer opened
  fire.
  
• 1302 unarmed civilians were killed in cold blood
  including 799 Gursikhs. Udham Singh a little
  child at that time saw his fellow gursikhs dying
  in front of his eyes. He vowed revenge.
• General Dyer retired and died 6 years after the
  incident but General Michael Odwyer who had
  given the order was still alive.
  
• Udham Singh ji travelled to the uk and took up
  work in the home of Odwyer.
  
• Udham Singh then gunned him down in a public
  meeting in London.
  
• Udham Singh had taken amrit from a young age but
  had become an apostate when he came to the Uk. He
  was a revolutionary.

1970 1974 - 1975

• The first two American Sikhs took Amrit and
  became members of the Guru Khalsa Panth
  
• Bhai Sahib Dayal Singh became the first western
  born Sikh to administer Amrit
  
• The Amrit Parchar was conducted for the first
  time by western born Khalsa.

13th April 1978

• Massacre took place in Amritsar
• 13 Gursikhs were murdered by False Nirankaris.
• 1 million pilgrims had come to Amritsar Sahib for
  Vaisakhi celebrations
  
• At the same time Nirankari Sect held conference
  in the City of Amritsar Sahib. They attacked the
  Guru sahibs and Sikhi.
  
• Bhai Fauja Singh ji led the jatha.
• When they arrived there to protest they found
  Gurbachana Sitting above Guru Granth Sahib Ji
  maharaj
  
• They also had a para military platoon with them.
• They opened fire on the Gursikhs
• The jatha compromised Akhand Kirtanee Jatha
  Sangat and Singhs related to Damdami Taksal
