Swim Meet Orientation
  • Almost everything you ever wanted to know about
    swim meets

2 Types of Meets
  • USA/Minnesota
  • All year round
  • Charge per event swum (2-5 each)
  • Charge per swimmer entered in meet (usually
    2.50)
  • Located in MN, mostly around the twin cities area
  • CWSC (Central Wisconsin Swim Conference)
  • Only October to February
  • Usually no fee
  • Located all over Wisconsin from La Crosse up to
    Minocqua and everywhere in between

How to sign up for meetsCheck the website for
due dates
  • USA/Minnesota Meets
  • Pick up an order of events from the file box
  • Highlight events your swimmers wishes to swim
  • Turn in to coach with check made out NRATS for
    proper amount
  • CWSC
  • Find the sign up at the pool
  • Write in your child's name for the meet they
    would like to enter
  • Coach will select events

Meet Requirement
  • USA/Minnesota
  • Each meet is designated with a time standard
    A/B/C or Open
  • Must have time that falls within the meet
    guidelines
  • Open meets are open to all swimmers regardless of
    time
  • CWSC
  • No requirements to attend meets during regular
    season
  • However times do count towards meeting MN time
    standards

At the Meet
  • Warm-ups
  • Start approximately 1 hour before meet
  • Team warms up together under coach supervision
  • Swimmers practice strokes for the day as well as
    starts off of the blocks

  • The Meet
  • Swimmers compete with same gender
  • Swimmers compete with same speed, meet is set up
    so similar entry times swim against each other
  • Swimmers swim within proper age bracket
  • 8 and under
  • 9 10
  • 11 12
  • 13 14
  • 15 Over

What to Bring to the Meet(the necessities)
  • For the Parents/Family
  • Sharpie pen
  • Highlighter
  • Chairs for the family
  • Something to do or read while waiting
  • Cooler packed with healthy food and drink for
    everyone in family including swimmer
  • for programs, food, goggles, caps, etc
  • For the Swimmer
  • At least 2 towels
  • Warm clothes to put on, sweats, etc even if nice
    out (other than clothes that you came in)
  • Team cap
  • Goggles
  • Extra goggles
  • Sleeping bag to hang out on while waiting
  • Pillow to relax with

Keeping Track of TimesIt is a swimmers
responsibility to know their times
  • Create a notebook for your times
  • on each page put an event (ex. 50 free) as the
    title
  • make a column for
  • date, location, time, course (yards or
    meters), time standard achieved, comments
